If you attempt to pause it, or stop and restart it, it corrupts and files and forces you to download the entire game again. Learnt that the hard way.
I see that we have a misguided youngling thinking that download speed and installation speed is the same thing. It is not.
See, back in time we used one type of patching only, replace patching I suppose you could call it. Simply put you would download the new file, it would be cut and pasted into the destination folder. The temporary downloaded file would get deleted.
That was a slow method, a method that is rarely used today as it tended to have to replace. A lot of files when patching.
These days we primarily do merge patching, that is to say that you have a piece of code which is merged into a file either to overwrite specific areas and/or add new areas. This saves a lot of time, but with the draw back that.. corrupting files can occur. The temporary file for mergin would be deleted.
None of that are actually relevant to your issue. Your issue can be many:
- The route with which your pc communicates with the steam servers is congested slowing down download speeds.
- Your internet sucks.
- Steam content servers are congested. This happens fairly frequently on game launches btw.
Not to mention that the threads you pulled up are 2+ years old. Now, Warhammer inparticular has a reputation for having issues on Steam especially with download. Things that are 70mb takes hours to download and that is purely an issue with Total War and Steam.
Now, please. You have been educated. No more nonsense about I have to clear 120gb of data everytime I patch.
Maybe it's your machine? Is your SSD full to the brim?
Steam like to eat space to duplicate things.
200mb patch tends to take 20-40 secs tops.
Lots of people complain because lots of people don't understand what is happening. (Extra space free) or have bad mechanical drives.
Tf are you on about lmao. I literally said it was installation that caused the amount of time. I even said the download is faster than the install.
2+ years old, how does that matter? Same systems, same engine, same issues.
To reiterate for you, download speeds are fine, the games download takes no time at all. It is the installation of said download which is the core issue, that is what makes it take so long. There are numerous reports from 2021 if you want them reporting the same issue. Patch downloads quickly, then takes 20-30mins for said patch to INSTALL.
As you said, Installation speed is not the same as downloading speed, it seems you have mixed them up.
Reading is always cool to do btw! You have been educated.
Edit: I'll also point out I said "Apparently" and in no way suggested that you had to clear that 120GB out for it to patch. It was purely speculation.
Like I said, it will concern this game. Warhammer 2 was not that bad, it only took 10 mins or so for a patch to fully install, but this game is twice as big, if not bigger, which is why I predict it will take significantly longer.
I can assure you, I know exactly what is happening.
I haven't had the issue for a while, but seeing a streamer have it live seems to suggest to me it's back.
