unlocking harle permanently
i'm a little confused at how multiple continue+'s would work, do you have to get the chrono cross as lynx on a second playthrough and pull your entire party over from your first before you beat the game? or will everyone from your first playthrough permanently save even if you beat the game without them on your second playthrough as lynx?

It's been like 20 years since I finished but every time you beat the game you can save. The characters you unlocked in that one will carry over to your next NG+, then you work out how to unlock the characters you are missing.

i understood that part thanks, but my question is since you can't chrono cross as lynx as far as i know, does that mean every character you unlocked in your first playthrough will be lost since you need to beat the game as lynx to unlock harle?

Take this with a grain of salt because I have only read it and havent done it yet, but I believe you keep your characters from previous playthroughs unlocked even if you havent summoned them yet. So you need to play up until you get Harle, beat the end boss with her unlocked and keep the completed game save, then you use continue plus on your original "at the end of the game" save and you will be able to summon her right then and there.

EDIT: This guide explains it best, scroll down to "getting all characters with continue+"

Basically it takes a snapshot of your characters when you finish the end boss and it doesn't matter if you collect ones in previous snapshots.

So it is possible to actually unlock harle permanently? I always thought she could never be permanent and always disappears before end bosses..so is the above method legitimate way to get her without some kinda cheating?

Also read if you use her in one of the "other endings" when she is with you when you fight the time egg boss, she can be recruited that way too.

Thats what the above method is. Basically everytime you kill the end boss and get an ending any characters in your character list gets added to your pool, it's basically a method to help get them all without playing through the game 4 times.

Yes you can unlock Harle permanently but it's slightly annoying. You need to beat the game once, and continue in a new game+ up until you are Lynx in Sprigg's dimension.

Once you have at least Harle+Sprigg+Lynx you use the Time Egg item (you get it after you beat the game on a new game+) at any point while she is still in your party list and beat the boss. Doing so on the next new game+ once you get to the Temporal Vortex (with the Chrono Cross) you use it there and bam she's unlocked forever.

There is a reason to beat the end boss right after you get Lynx+Sprigg+Harle cause it unlocks one of the endings and by that point you shouldn't have an issue beating it with just the three of them, especially if you unlocked Wight Knight for Sprigg.

You get them but you don't get the Chrono Cross until the end of the game so basically you need three playthroughs with NG+ or Continue+ as follows:
1. First playthrough, beat the game. Start up NG+ loading from the finished game, or load a save while you had Harle or before that point as Continue+

2. Play the game up to when you're Lynx and have Harle, play as far as you want but limit the story progression to before you fight Dark Surge and get your body back as that's when Harle drops out of the party. Use the Time Egg on the temporal rift beach and beat the game

3. Play the game as you wish NG+ or Continue+ from the second run's save data, progress to the end of the game, when you get the Chrono Cross you'll have access to everyone tagged by your data as someone who was unlocked when you finished the game. The first will have most characters and the second will give you Lynx and Harle as permanent party options POST forging the Chrono Cross.

I already covered it.
