game crashes after start
hi, havent played for a while, now wanted to come back, but sadly game crashes instantly after UR logo... i get a blackscreen and after some time an error-message "lowLevelFatalError 684...

checked already steam and internet, and there i found a tip to force directx11, which i did, just resulting in another error LowLevelFatalError 198, where community suggested to force directx12...
so running in circles here... :D

can anyone help?

if youd make the game fully responsive reg. screensize i think this issue would be solved?

Don't force DirectX12. DX12 seems to cause a lot of issues for people in this game, including crashes, so t's best to set it to DX11.

Try the following already:

- restart your pc (yes, sounds like a stupid suggestion, but we had people before reporting weird issues when their pc had been running for weeks without having been shut down)

- verify the game files to make sure nothing is corrupt: right click Medieval Dynasty in the list of games in your Steam library, pick 'installed files' and then 'verify integrity of game files'

- update graphics card drivers

- change to DX11:
either in the game : settings - graphics - rendering mode - DX11 (Don't forget to accept changes at the bottom)
or if you can't access the settings ingame, through launch parameter: in your Steam library, right click on Medieval Dynasty in the list, go to "Properties" and in 'general' under the "Launch Options" window add: -dx11

Do you still have the crash after that?
If so, what is the full error message?

hi, thanks for the fast reply,

yes, i restarted the computer, i usually do on a daily basis

i also tried to repair the game via steam, tried to uninstall and install it, even on several hardrives

windows and gpu-drivers are up2date

the DX11 i tried also with the launch-options from steams...

nothing worked so far...

now i did a "sfc /scannow" and got some things repaired there, so will try to download again and try again regular and with -dx11... lets see...

edit: nope, wont work... same errors...

with -dx11:

LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line: 198]
Unreal Engine is exiting due to D3D device being lost. (Error: 0x8878A9997 - 'RESET')

for regular start:

LowLevelFatalError [File:Unknown] [Line:684]
SwapChain1 -> ResizeBuffers(NumBackBuffers, SizeX, SizeY,
GetRenderTargetFormat(PixelFormat), SwapChainFlags) failed at
E:UE427P/Engine/Source/Runtime/D3D12RHI/Private/WindowsWindwosD3D12Viewport.cpp:376
with error DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED with Reason:
DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_RESET
Num=3, Size(1360,768), PF=18, DXGIFormat=0x18, Flags=0x802

Can you go to device manager in Windows and check under display drivers if you have a second GPU listed there (an onboard one on your motherboard). If you do, please right click and 'disable device' and afterwards restart your pc.

Could this maybe fix it?
Fenrir Jan 12 @ 4:26am
nope, only one gpu listed here :/
Fenrir Jan 12 @ 4:28am
i also saw a list posted from someone, where the issue might come from UE4 and things to do to fix it... tried it all... didnt change a thing

Can you run a DxDaig and upload that here? A link via WeTransfer should work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-49zmQgK70

Also what size PSU do you have fitted?

Your GPU driver is up to date, but is heavily corrupted. This will require you to uninstall it completely. restart the PC. Then download and install it again, before restarting the PC again and trying the game

Your DxDiag shows this for all 10 positions

Hm, could you try reinstalling DirectX to see if that solves it? https://www.lifewire.com/how-to-download-install-directx-2624489

i still run windows 10, so directx12 ultimate is not installed... might that be an issue?

Not sure.

I don't think so.

Could you maybe make a new dxdiag now that you repaired the GPU driver? Let's see if the error TheMole mentioned is resolved in there.
