(Fixed) No sound in the menu or in-game
Edit:
Turns out the issue in this case was the sound quality.
I had it set to 32bit, 384000Hz, and the limit was 32bit, 192000Hz.

System - Sound - Properties and then choose the output device you wanna use, and change the format.

Hello.

I've tried to get the sound working for some time now.
I play on steam, windows 11 and all updates installed.

The sound works great in all other applications and games.

I have already tested out:
- Updating AMD drivers
- Multiple restarts of the PC.
- Steam file integrity check
- The game is set to run as administrator, and so is steam
- Tested all window sizes, and also restarting the game with 0% volume and then setting it back up.
- Volume mixers both in windows and in-game. All are set to 100%
- Checked for permissions under sound and microphone
- On final step of installation it asked me about firewall settings, which I approved. I've double checked the settings in firewall (and windows defender), they are set to open.
- Updated windows with all latest updates.

While googling for the issue I came across lots of older fixes, some regarding 3rd party programs (which I have none installed), and also re-install windows (not an option, as all other games work as intended).

I use 3.5 plug headphones, and I do not run it through any hub or extension.

My current hardware:
AMD 7900 XT
AMD ryzen 7 7800X3D
ASUS ROG strix b650e-f
Kingston 32gb DDR5 6000MHz

Do NOT set the game .exe to run as administrator. This causes problems for a lot of people, especially on the Oxbow map or in co-op.

Can you try uninstalling the game from Steam completely, restarting your pc and then re-installing it?

If that doesn't work, run DISM and Sfc/scannow to fix any errors in your windows installation ( https://www.windowscentral.com/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image )

Let us know if none of that helped.

Could you upload a DxDiag, this will let us see software versions as well as what hardware you have.
The easiest way to do this is via a file sharing site such as WeTransfer, and then sharing the link here. Alternatively you can use the discord or Toplitz's support tickets found on their website

For if you wonder, you can aquire a DxDiag log by:
- clicking your start menu
- Typing DxDiag
- Starting the program
- Choosing yes
- Waiting for the progress bar in the left bottom to finish
- Selecting save all information
- Putting it in a folder where you can find it to upload
- Uploading it
- Sharing the link (Via Discord/DM/For...)

Not sure if it's valid for you, cause the 3.5mm jack can be... a lot... but there's also a known issue with 7.1 soundsystems not being compatible. Setting output to stereo in windows would fix that.
Tho not sure this bug is even relevant to Medieval Dynasty, it's an old thing that comes back from time to time with the used engine.

The re-install didn't change the outcome, and DISM showed "no component store corruption detected" so I guess it's a no there aswell. I run win11 btw, if that gives you any other ideas.

I'll head on with the next DxDiag now and see what it shows.

Here you go!

I did get a notice while running the program that said:
Error: Problem getting extra sound information.

Not sure what that means though, as no other games have problems regarding sound.

Hey, I had a look at your dxdiag and at first glance everything seems to be fine.

Regarding your audio issue: this is a very rare problem. We've had it in the past where the in-game sound settings were set to zero - but you've already checked those settings, as you stated above.

However, I suggest you take a look in the Windows sound settings (while the game is running) and see if the game sound is tied to a sound device other than the default (or the device you specifically want to use).
I've seen games and applications that don't follow the default settings but are routed to a different sound device - for whatever reason, so it can't hurt to double check here.

Another idea:
delete the file in which the default settings for Medieval Dynasty are stored (please make a backup of the file first).
You will find this file in the following folder:

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames\Settings

The file name is: MedievalDynastySettings.sav

You can simply rename this file to e.g. {...}Settings.sav01 or similar.
The game will create a new settings file. In this context, the game sound should be bound to the standard audio device.
However, you may need to check the graphics settings and adjust them to your requirements after deleting the old settings file.

I hope that this solves your problem. If not, we will have to look for other solutions.

The settings.sav didnt change anything. I'll upload both below if you wanna have a look.

The sound have also been looked at, I'll post a simple copy paste screenshot of all windows. I tested both Default and Headphones, neither gave sound in the menu or ingame.

Let me know if you need any other logs or tests done. I'm grateful for the support.

Could you try to start the game directly from the .exe to see if you have sound then?
<steam library>\steamapps\common\Medieval Dynasty\Medieval_Dynasty.exe

Keep in mind that this is NOT a good way to play the game, as a lot of the features in the Oxbow map won't work this way, but it might give us an idea if the sound issues have to do with the game itself, or with running it through Steam.

Could you check if any of this maybe works for you as well?

Hmm, so the last post actually fixed it.. I had read the two first topics already but must have missed the last one.. sadly.

It seems it cannot run above 32bit 192000Hz in my case, and I for some reason had it set to 32bit,384000Hz. Could be something worth adding to the general checklist for future sound issues!

Well issue sorted out, sound is working now!

Big thanks to all of you dedicating time on this! Much appreciated.
