Thanks for the suggestion. Tried the fixes mentioned to no avail.
Also, I just got Sengoku Dynasty today -- toplitz's next Dynasty installment -- and it has the same problem! It's actually why I noticed that Medieval has this issue is because I wanted to make sure that Medieval still worked like it did a couple weeks ago. Nope, same crash.
Possible solutions:
Update your Unreal Engine 5.
Update your GPU driver.
Verify the installation.
Stop overclocking.
Change your default graphics card.
Repair your system files.
Disable your antivirus temporarily.
Perform a reinstalling.
Force the game to start with dx11 argument in Steam client ( -dx11 ).
I have 2 computers, using the same steam account.
When I launch the game using steam interface on one computer I have the "UE4 fatal error" message and on the other one the game launches properly
All drivers are up to date on both computers
DX12 is selected
I tried to solve the problem using all the solutions listed above but the "UE4 fatal error" always appears
One point is that when I launch the game directly by clicking directly on the Medieval_Dynasty.exe file (located at \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Medieval Dynasty)
or Medieval_Dynasty-Win64-Shipping.exe (located at \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Medieval Dynasty\Medieval_Dynasty\Binaries\Win64) the game launch propoerly and I could play without any problem
My point of view is that since the update something is missing with the shortcut used by steam to launch the game (file path, ... )
Nevertheless clicking directly on the .exe file works for me everytime.
Can you try launching the game with dx11, just to make sure? in your Steam library, right click on Medieval Dynasty in the list, go to "Properties" and in 'general' under the "Launch Options" window add: -dx11
If that doesn't work; could you provide a dxdiag report so the more technical people can have a look? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-and-run-dxdiag-exe-dad7792c-2ad5-f6cd-5a37-bf92228dfd85
To upload it, just use a site like wetransfer.com to create a link for you that you can paste here (no need to make an account on wetransfer, just click the 'i just want to send files' link.)
Same for you. Could you try by launching as -dx11 and provide us a dxdiag report after you made sure you update the drivers of your graphics card?
As it happens, my Epic Games Launcher had become corrupt and wouldn't update (per the first suggestion to update Unreal Engine by SwordsOfTheSouth). So after a brief reinstall of Epic Games Launcher, it's all running peachy again!
Apologies for my fallacious assumption that toplitz's packaging had something to do with it -- it was all Unreal-powered games that were failing, I realized after some more testing.
Anyway, thanks for the responses and support!
