We didn't have the option to open in directx, but we both tried the "Steam networking" trick and still no luck.
Seems to be when I copy and send the code before I fully log into the map she gets the black screen!
Might be worth fully opening the server so you can play, then copy and send the code and the friend fully load up and then enter it.
3 of us are trying to play the game in co-op. I can't join any of the games my friends host. Since yesterday's update (12.08) they also have problems joining each other's games (before that they had no problem with it). They could only join right now, when one of them started a solo Oxbow game, saved it, then restarted and switched to co-op. I still couldn't join that session.
BUT if I make a co-op game, they can join mine without a problem.
With one friend I have the loading screen picture. After a flash it shows the loading indicator for a moment, then it throws me back to the main menu. After that, I can't try to reenter the game or make a new game (either solo or co-op). If I try to join again it just says "session not found". I have to close the game and restart it if I want anything.
With the other friend it's the black screen with only the mouse (I have seen this problem in many cases here in the forum), then back to the main menu and same case of restarting the game.
We tried setting the game to DirectX11 for all of us, then again on DirectX12, or for just the host on DX12, and the others on DX11. It didn't seem to have any effect, good or bad, on the joining session problem.
Our PC's are on the same router, so not some distant session or different router settings.
Hope this helps solve the problems. It at least shows that even with the same PC there are different cases if I want to join a different friend. There and back connection, like I can't join their game while they can join mine, can also mean a big difference.
