Domesticate wolf option
Having the ability to domesticate a wolf with meat will add to the game. It would not only add aesthetics to the village but it could passively follow you around, or you could click an icon to get it to help you hunt. I shared this idea in other social media platforms, too.

How long would it take (to domesticated a wild animal)?
Lagkill Jul 10, 2024 @ 7:10pm
IRL it took about 10-15,000 years.

Would it be better if the Dev just add a dog. After all, I would get a dog if you successfully domesticated a wolf.

10yrs does not seem too long, lol (yes I know you meant 10,000)

Thats a really good point, why reinvent the wheel, If wolves has already been domesticated, why not just get a dog.

In medieval ages, humans has already domesticated dogs, so implementing them into villages and allowing the player to adopt one (from unlocking and doing a quest chain) makes sense...

Unlike a mount, the dog companion can be a hunting partner, and will chase and catch rabbits for you if trained and ordered to.

As well, the dog can be trained to threaten bandits or wild animals temporarily with loud barking, making them hesitant to act for a short window at the start of a fight.

Finally, the dog can be trained to 'track' things you want to seek, and will mark ideal resources on your compass temporarily, like say you want to find 'clay' deposits, or mine entrances, animal spots, etc.

The dog has to be fed and cared for, or it will run away (back to a specific village caretaker npc maybe?) if neglected, requiring you to reward it to make it forgive you again.

More features having dogs and breeding them might be interesting, such as making use of them for your settlement security, advance warning through loud barking, and deterring pests from destroying your crops (crows could be scared off by scarecrows, but they are intelligent enough to figure it out eventually, and scarecrows doesn't impact rabbits or rats that comes in to eat your crops)?

If you can get a dog, then getting a cat is interesting as well...
A cats and dogs update perhaps, each animal giving unique features and gameplay elements (for instance cats and dogs both bolster the mood of your settlers, but cats are better at influencing social stuff).

Cats are better at pest control to deal with rats, and cats may randomly bring home a random bird/rat it caught, or maybe random trinkets (like a few coins or random items it pilfered from the environment?).

With cats and dogs as a update, you can add in new quests to unlock them, and side quests to find 'lost pets' to lead back, or provide pet food to the quest giver, and such.

I'd also suggested falconry in the past. Even if it was reserved for nobles, it would be nice to catch and breed them as a quest for the herald.

If they add the dog, I'd suggest to create a slot in the fold so he can watch over the sheep and protect against the wolfs, even though they don't attack directly, maybe a season event could be added and with the dog assigned the chances are low for the event to appear.
I could also imagine that the dog would bark if bandits are close by.

And if they add a dog then I would also like a cat, and every time when you sleep in your bed the cat will drop a rat in the house as a gift (Minecraft reference)
Just kidding, Kai's idea sounds much better.

Falconry sounds also interesting, and while we are at it, pigeons to send secret messages to your partner or for missions.

Yes it would be absolutely amazing. Cats to protect the crops and farm from rodents and dogs for hunting and protection from bandits and such. But it would be awesome if we could tame wolfs instead of just killing them. And rabbits! We should be able to domesticate rabbits too. Oh I wish 😻

Taming wolves.... it's like most gamers have never even been outside before.

No shi....
They question is how long did it take for humans to domesticate wild animals to tame.
The idea here is taking a wild adult wolf and "taming" it, is not a legitimate idea.

Exactly. So, why do you need to domesticate wolf when you already can get a dog?
Maelen Jan 18 @ 5:19am
I think what we really ask is - Can we get some pets please XD oh and to be honest more children would be nice too. I'm pretty sure the medieval people were more fertile ;) Survival of the kids till adulthood is a different story but we can skip some of the macabre can't we? Just saying 😉
