Forced to create new character for existing game.

As the title says I am in year 5 with a pretty decent little village and I have tried to load my last 5 saves (quick, auto, and manual saves). When I do this they all lead to the character creation screen and force me to make a new character. Once in game my village is still there but I am back to no skills and figure it will cause lots of new bugs so I quit out. Anyone else having this problem? are there any fixes? a quick forum search found none.

Are you playing solo or in co-op?

You are forced to make a new character whenever the game can't match your SteamID with the SteamID saved for the character in your savegame.

Are you online on Steam and playing the game the normal way through Steam (and not directly from the medieval_dynasty.exe)? Firewall/router is not blocking anything?

When was the last time you still had your character?

Which version 2.0.1.0 are you playing? The normal live version or are you opted into one of the beta versions?

Thank you for the quick response. Restarting Steam fixed it for whatever reason. I am playing solo on the Oxbow. I am playing the normal live version.

I will let you know if it happens again and restarting doesn't fix it.

Probably just Steam being Steam. The Steam client isn't made to handle internet glitches. Most likely due to corporate greed.

I has happened to me to, a few times. It seems to happen every time I played in a group. It's like the game gets 'confused', and 'thinks' that I am joining a new game for the first time, whenever I played in a group. It has helped me, after I chose to save the game locally. I could then close the game completely (after I played in a group, and it wanted me to create my character again), and then use one of the last automatic saves instead.

This is also happening to me. Restarting Steam does not resolve the issue. It's only happens with the lates version. I played for hundreds of hours before and never had this issue. I am playing in Oxbow. Every time I load a game the intro plays and I am obliged to create a new character.

I have tried those steps, but I'm having the same issue every time. As I said, I never had this issue before. I last played in May this year, and when I tried again a few days ago I encounted this issue.

When it's asking you to make a new character, what name does it suggest? Is it your Steam name, or is it your PC name in Windows?

Then it looks like your save might be corrupt and your character is not in there :s
Could you upload your savegame so the devs can have a look?

You can find your savegame in %LocalAppData%\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames.
To upload it, just use a site like wetransfer.com to create a link for you that you can paste here (no need to make an account on wetransfer, just click the 'i just want to send files' link.)

Devs checked your savegame, but they could find your SteamID in there and were able to log onto your character with it.
Are you sure you are playing from the same Steam account as you did when you made that save?

Update: they found a different ID in your savefile than the one you used to post here. Could it be that you were playing offline or not through Steam when you created that savegame?

In any case, for the game to match you with the right character, you need to be logged in the same way when you load the game as when you saved it.
It's not a good idea to play offline or to lauch the .exe directly instead through Steam, as some features will not work properly, so if I was you I would just start a new save, this time launching the game properly through Steam.

Edit: or you could try this one: https://we.tl/t-mYzCXghz3O ; devs manually changed the SteamID linked to the character to the one you posted with now. Let me know if that one doesn't work.

Thank you very much for your help. I'm using the same PC, with the same account and starting the game in the same way (through the Steam Library) as always. I have nearly 700 hours in the game, and it's the first time I've had this issue.

I just tried with the character from the same game you uploaded on WeTransfer and it worked! Thank you again for your help.
