Other than that, go to a Clothes salesman and look through their wares, any time the 'cold tolerance' number goes green, the item you are looking at is better than what you are wearing
right up till he gets attacked and decides to put armour on, lol.
For winter, my "normal clothing" is the "Excellent" padded armor set, since it has such a high cold resist to go with its damage reduction (and that's the season I have the most time to bandit hunt). But normally, I'm in the "Noble" clothes with the rest stored on the horse (as was mentioned).
Also don't forget to equip one item in every slot. For example the "winter clothes" set doesn't have a collar item IIRC, even though they exist.
