Advice? Build a hunting lodge, get two linen threads and a log, and craft your first bow. Spears really aren't intended for much beyond either using them as melee weapons or else throwing them at something that will let you get close like a crow. They've been shoved below the power curve, so to speak.
So no hunting at all until I build a building that requires me to have tech points already and the starting weapon is completely useless making any sort of exploration or going to specific spots for builds impossible.... They need to roll that change back or get rid of the weapons and armor entirely. If you don't one shot something hostile with a spear, you're dead because the combat ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks and always has. Your advice just tells me early game sucks now and there's no point in playing anymore.
Or with other words: "git gud kid".
(I didn't try with the predators, but i wouldn't advice trying to face those with only a wooden spear.)
Then your game is different from mine for whatever reason. Even rabbits run away before I can aim at them. The aiming is awkward too, I just gave up on them entirely. Pretty much a useless weapon now.
I impaled a Wisent last night with a Wooden Spear before it even noticed me.
I got a second spear in it as it charged and then proceeded to juke and jive until I finally took it down with an Iron Axe.
Reductio ad absurdum.
You might as well roll on the ground kicking and screaming about how you're taking your toys and leaving.
I don't usually like this sentiment, but I think it's on point this time.
Just because you can't play the way you used to or the way you want to doesn't mean you can't play at all. (Unless, of course, this change is just so egregious to you that you can't get past it.)
Otherwise, maybe don't expect anymore to take down big game with a wooden spear. Or maybe don't use the spear at all. Or maybe don't expect hunting to be as simple as it used to be. Or maybe focus on whatever hunting you can do in the early game and then progress into big game later as your technology improves.
You can kill rabbits without weapons. Just run after them and keep punching/kicking them.
