Oxbow quests

This game has been at the top of my list to play for a long time. Only played in brief stints previously.

1. Should I play the original map first (not playing co-op so that doesn't figure into decision)?

2. I have seen a lot of confusion in the forum regarding Oxbow quests. Are the quests new, or are they the same as the original map? Mainly referring to main quests, and not cookie cutter side quests, but it would be good to know the answer to all.

2a. If the oxbow quests are different....does Oxbow have main quest storylines, or are they more like the side quests of the original map?

3. I have also read that some people believe there is a larger quest line being added and seen clues regarding this (not sure how up to date this info is, it could be solved by now)....has there been any official word about larger narrative elements being introduced?

But worth pointing out that the segments that are there work well as stand alone quests (and are not simple "one shot" quests but span several seasons).
