The starter Box Spawns not until you have spoken to the doctor.
Its direct next to the Chicken, on the other side of the fence from the Target you shall use the spear on
And thanks for the info, Priest! I thought it was next to the shack I started in. Facing the shack, outside and to the right. When I found the chest, Derwan was standing outside the house.
I'll take a look the next time I'm in Plastovia and see what I missed out on. I'll probably grab the items and sell them to pay for animal feed or maybe I nice gift for my wife lol and she'll say "Aww thanks, I appreciate a gift, even this one !"
Cheers for the info.
The tools wearing out and breaking is a bit of a nuisance but you'll likely get better performance from some tools as you progress and unlock better skills. 10% better durability and up to 30% better.
But yeah, I hope they (the devs) revise this at some point so we can just sharpen a tool rather than having to replace it, but I doubt it. And don't get me started on arrows simply vanishing whilst out hunting. Compensation would be nice, but I guess all the free stuff we can find some what covers the losses and stops me from raging about it. Those Iron Arrows aren't cheap ! I've never lost so many copper and bronze arrows as I have in Oxbow, whether it was hunting rabbits, badgers and foxes for the quests or Wisents for meat and leather or wolves because they are just annoying, those arrows just simply vanish into the ether
Been there, done that haha I don't normally hunt them but there's lots of quests on the notice board to kill the little critters, rabbits, badgers and foxes and being the archer sniper maestro, I let the arrows do the work 😜 It's quicker
Alright, Lee -- how do I hunt fish? Do I need the fishing hut? I'm working on that but it's not up and running yet. However, I've found a few fishing spears along the way, but I've yet to see a fish...
🤣 They are quick and have a habit of going through undergrowth making you go left, when they went right and you scratch your head 😜
You wont need the fishing hut to hunt them, but if you want to dry or salt fish then you will, or if you want someone to fish for you. Best way is to use the map and select the animals layover, there you can see the locations of fish habitats. Pike are the easiest, you can use a regular spear for them and bring the best yield of meat and once roasted, can get you some decent coinage. Fish spears are handy for the taddies, Roach and Perch, but for me, they are a waste of time and effort for the return.
Once you've unlocked the fishing net traps, you'll have it easier catching them if you prefer Roach and Perch.
Shame there's no slippery eels though, if you like chasing wabbits, imagine how much fun you could have trying to catch an eel.
"Spike a Pike, what's not to like" is my motto
PS If you unlock the inspector mode you'll find it a bit easier to hunt fish, but it's still tricky at times, the glow doesn't stand out so much until your close. and in gloomy weather it can be an ordeal.
Best cave I've found is: down in the south part of the map, right of center. Just follow the river and you'll see it. If I remember right, there wasn't even a bear there when I found it, though there are a couple bears near the small lake to the northwest. A lot of nice level ground for building and plenty of resources. it's a bit out of the way, but still pretty close to the main city.
I suggest to make asap orchyards.
They cause not much work
they give food, that can be sold or later turn into fertilizer

And you need anyway to make some fields to unlock the food storage, what is much nicer than checking all the houses
And i spend the first day of each season in my mine and the mine in the other town. When i could start with iron tools i had 800 Iron ingots on storage

Specially if you have restricted carryweight i suggest to build several storage buildings
(The main town for a complete example)

Or as a complete tip
1: Start game make startquest
2: Build 3 small houses next to a mine you can later expand (the mine will need 6 worker)
3: Plant tons of Fruit trees (slows you down in the beginning but speed you up after year 2)
4: Most important Ressource your settler can produce in the first 2 Years are Woodlogs, worst buildings are Hunter and Fisher. (They Produce literally less food as you can Hunt in a few minutes)
Yes and no, the quartermaster is a pretty nice guy, you should listen to what he has to say.
