NPC's seem confused as to their jobs

I have one NPC that starts off in the morning asking what should she do.
Or at other times claiming that she does not have any jobs to do. All the while sweeping the floor or just standing around.
I checked her status and she is the cook.
She has task that take up 100% of her job and she has everything she needs to do her job.
She also does her cooking job when it's time.

So what is going on.

Only the animation/chat is wrong. You will see, that she cooks alright and you get all the dishes.

Only farm work is real, all other jobs are animation only.

This confused me too lol. I think we have the same npc as our cook.

I think this happens if they aren't at a workstation "working". Usually after I have kicked them off of it. You hear it a lot in the hunting lodge since I don't think there is a workstation to work at.

This is not a bug, just the way the game works.
For example, when you miners walk to the mine every morning, they are already producing goods, what ever you set them to collect is collected.
Only farmers are doing real work in real time, this is why we recommend you house them close to their work station.

Does this include miners?

or just farmers.

Just farmers, miner are collecting minerals while walking to the mine, so miner is only animation. Farmers have to do the work.

All my farmers are CRAP at their job. They don't even fertilise the fields. I have to do most of the farming crap, and if I'm lucky their crop one or two of the field... blocks... thing. I dunno.

You probably didn't set the field settings correctly. They won't do anything if you don't have a plant type assigned in the field planning window.

If you sow the fields with the crop you want, then the field is assigned that crop. This is what I do, since I do all the farming myself the first couple years. After that, the workers assigned to the farm shed will plant what's needed every season. I have one field for each crop type, and this way I don't have to go through management and set the fields the tedious way.
