Unwanted granddaughter
I decided to continue a game on the Oxbow: Now I have a problem...

I've only just noticed that my son and his wife have had a daughter. (Oxbow). To be honest I don't want to play as a female called Sobieslawa at some time in the future. This is naturally because I was unable to pass on to my son when he got to 18 and name the child as I can in The Valley. I had assumed that they would NOT have a child until 'I' had died and thus I would 'make her' pregnant etc. As happens in The Valley

Is there anything I can do... What happens if I kick out my daughter in law, will my son go as well? Or is this a case of abandoning a game.... (I don'r have a save that far back to get before the birth..)

You can easily try this out by saving your game first, and then kicking her out to see what happens. My guess is your son will go with her, but if that's the case, you can just reload your save.

Atm though, I've seen a bug reported; that if you take over your heir, that their underaged child (your grandchild) simply disappears: https://steamcommunity.com/app/1129580/discussions/4/4327475903879528189/

So it looks like if you take over your son before they fix this bug, you won't have to worry about your unwanted granddaughter ever again, as she'll just go poof. :-)

I also read somewhere that when you take over your heir in Oxbow, you get the character creation screen where you can rename him/her, so you might not be stuck with the name Sobieslawa if you don't want to (you won't be able to change the gender though). But I've only read about this; can't confirm myself yet.

I'm 46 in the game. If I kick her out my son goes as well (I just tried it) Not sure if I can get another son at this age and then perhaps I'll die before he gets to 18. so that would be game over.

Perhaps I'll go and die.. (although I really don't approve of suicide) I guess that's worth a try. I have a hard back up but it's a long way back ..

Just ran into a bandit camp .. died.. restarted as son but baby daughter is still there. I'll try a kick out, and see if I can have another kid .... (then hope not to die in the next 18 years.. )

Your son will accompany his wife when you kick her out. (You will be asked again before the realization whether you want to kick out the family and then all names will be displayed).

You could kick your wife and child out after you take over your son and then start a new family.
You could also play your current character and your son for so long that your granddaughter's child is already grown up when you take her over. So then you could kill her off immediately.

But there's not really much difference. If you play both genders, you'll have more different NPC characters as spouses.

The bug seems to be related to taking over the wife who is still taking care of the child. It doesn't happen when you take over the husband (tested in my family).

I can confirm the renaming and character creation after death (without gender change).

not sure your issue, the name or the sex(sorry when i went to school gender and sex meant the same thing, I WILL NOT GO INTO THE DEBATE HERE). If its just the name, I am pretty sure you change the name when you take over, if your issue is the sex, well follow morri's advice.

To the devs.......... most people choose the sex they want to play by, so let the heir follow that gender.

Personally I dont care, I just loose the backpack so she cant carry as much. YOUR GAME play it your way

ok, just tried this, if your now daughter will be the heir you can throw them(your wife and heir to be ) out of the village, the issues you might come across is.... can you find another wife (remember my friend you are getting old and the wrinkles are showing, and those joints are starting to creak) and then you have to do the business and have another child.

I have to honest, I have never died of old age, I tend to pass on leadership or die of bandit/animal attack.

Answer seems simple enough to me. If the grand daughter isn't of age yet, go kill yourself and you will take over as your son. Then kick out the sons wife, this will cause the grand daughter to leave with her. Go and get married again and then save scum a boy.

It's my granddaughter that's the problem (Heck that sounds bad... LOL) In Oxbow you can't pass on to your son as you can in The Valley. You HAVE to be dead.

Wizard: That's my problem .. I do NOT approve of suicide in life or a game.

I've saved out (under a new name) kicked them out and had a passionate night with my wife. All I have to do now is hope I don't die before he (YES) It will be a boy :) is 18. I didn't like the fact it said My son hates me and has gone off to start elsewhere... I did everything for the little swine and that's the thanks I get.... Well good luck ex-son of mine :)

You can make a spin-off in another save, where you play as the disgruntled son :-)

If you play on your son you can banish your daughter (or wife and daughter).
So whenever you take him over, she can go byebye.

Make sure to do it in time so you still have time to make a new kid 18-y-o tho.

If you banish your wife and unwanted daughter, you would need to remarry someone within 10 years of your age so keep that in mind depending on how old the son is
