Not really. It depends on what the "hammer" is used for. Blacksmith might need a hammer made from a harder material (just need to be hard enough to pound red hot metal into shape). However, carpenter usually don't have that same requirement. Mallet can be made from wood (so that it won't destroy tool like chisel, wooden pin/dowel). The "hammer" in the game cover both.

Pickax main usage is breaking up stone/rock.

It's left out intentionally since copper is indeed not suited to break apart rock due to it being too soft.

I use a copper hammer at work
Copper hammers is generally used to prevent damage/distortion to surfaces. Similar to a rubber mallet being used today.

OH you got me.
no,i dont make swords and armour at work. but a copper hammer was just as practical in medieval times as it is in todays society. if we get rid of copper hammers, lets also get rid of stone hammers.

after a little bit of thought, using a copper hammer to mold armour makes a lot of sense

Copper hammers are still very useful. I used to work with explosives. Copper hammers can be found on any demolition site. They're used 'cause they don't create sparks.
They're also non-magnetic which is equally important to not interfere with certain detonation devices.

that's very relevant to 11th century!
I know about specialised uses copper hammers have to this day but we are using those for everything from building to smiting in game.

I think the game should introduce restrictions in the term of mining if you want to maintain a realistic feel. Stone pickaxes could mine limestone, copper and tin, but would significantly struggle to mine iron as it is a harder material. The game should make it so bronze tools are required to mine iron nodes, and that should go for villager production too. It would also help from keeping people ruining the games economy by mass producing so many bronze knives early and mid game if they need bronze tools to mine iron.

This also gives a sense of progression and upgrading in the game, because there is then a clear progression of Stone -> Bronze -> Iron instead of Stone ->Bronze/Iron

I think that was the intention behind durability loss on tools. It can probably be amplified by mining iron with a stone pickaxe (one shot destruction)..... it might still happen in the future, but for time spend on coding vs gains for it, this is where we are with that for now.

In response to the similarity to modern rubber hammers.
