I had the same bug, same quest. It seems like Derwan is taking the 12 torches off of you the moment you try and talk to him, but it is not advancing the quest. No torches in my inventory at all after talking to him. Tried this a few times.

There are two different types of torches, one you can make by hand and the other you need the workshop for. Derwan wants the ones from the workshop.

Can confirm, you need to doublecheck what he asks for and bring the thing that is named exaclty like that.
So simple torches will NOT work.

Which torches did you have? "Torches" or "Simple torches"? He shouldn't take torches from you unless it's for the quest.
If he does in your case, please post a video where you demonstrate this (Steam has a handy feature to record a video now).

yeah, i doubled checked the torches. its the right ones, not simple torches. i already passed the season where the quest comes up, so let me recreate it on another save and see

edit: i was able to turn it in on the other save, so there must've been something i overlooked like the number of torches (i know i had the right type of torch for sure tho). sorry for the inconvenience!

Yeah, thats some kind of stupidness of the game, because stuff u "wear" or to say in other words: U equip in a quickslot, do seem to not count as an item . This means if u see u need to make 12 torches, u make them and the first one get equiped in your hand automaticly, because u are not have one equiped before, the quests thinks u only have 11 left, and this means u not fullfill the quest and so cannot complete them.

U need to unequip them , or simply always make one item more than needed.

You may be right. I'll check this again next time I see that quest pop up. It's long since expired.

Except that items don't assign themselves to your hotbar or hand when you make them....

They actually do when you first select an empty quickslot and then craft a tool. It'll automatically get put in the quickslot. I use it all the time when my last axe break for example to save myself the trouble of going into the menu to assign it to my "axe-spot" again.
