It takes a Water Carrier worker more time to fill a Bucket than two Waterskins.
But here's the real kicker: a Bucket will only provide 2000 Water over its lifetime versus a Waterskin at 12,500 Water over its lifetime.
It takes the village a LOT more effort to make 6 Buckets than it does to make 1 Waterskin.
EDIT: And a little more min-max math-y reason ... A villager needs 90 Water per 3-day Season. Even with the Castellan level 3 skill, they will always have to drink 4 times from a Bucket of Water. But starting at Castellan level 2, they only need to drink from a Waterskin 3 times per season.
EDIT: Even if they were identical, I'd still keep using Waterskins. Like @Ookapia said, I also think managing drinking water is a lot easier when it's separate from production water.
It's not just the "production chain" at the top level. Consider also the tool usage (durability) that goes into making a Bucket vs a Waterskin.
A Waterskin is 4 Knife cuts. A Bucket is 6 Axe chops.
It takes a village almost twice as long to make an Axe than it does to make a Knife. Using knives for Leather is more efficient than using axes for Planks.
Where do you get all that data from???? I thought I was doing some okay comparing, but it is clear I've only scratched the surface.
In that case, you two enjoy your bucketless games. I wish you well.
I spend way too much time in spreadsheets. Little by little, I just peel back the layers.
Ahh, so you do concede that waterskins cannot completely replace buckets (which was the only point I was making). Thank you.
