It's all one shared inventory, getting a larger capacity with every new/better RS.
Same for Food-Storages.
But iirc, you can also bring him the items, right?
In this case, assuming you'd have to do several trips,
you'd have to Stack-Drop the items to his feet.
And then finally pick them all up and hand them over.
Exept for Logs and Planks
you can also drop a single basket, and then Stack-Drop your items into it.
It's unlimited Carryweight with a "handicap".
Pick up the basket and carry it around by holding E.
But you have to move slow and soft, or your items will get tossed out of the basket!
And there's the "cheaty" way, of course.
You can turn on Unlimited Carryweight at 'Custom Settings'
Do you have it all in your inventory?
The King wants 200 logs (400 wt)
900 stone (900wt)
100 Limestone (100wt)
400 straw (16 wt)
Not happening. How angry is the king going to be with me? (this really shouldn't even be a quest you can start by the first autumn, but there's no warning that the king is going to give you an impossible task)
maybe you should reject this task until you are later in the game, play the game slowly to get the best enjoyment.
I am not trying to boast but i can do this with my current resources, except the stone. in stock 224 logs (more are placed storage area not in chest, more experienced players know what I mean)
stone 481
limestone 407
straw 916
I have 1 x lvl 3 storage and 1 x lvl 1.
Oh I missed clay....my clay is at under 50 as it is used daily, but mined @ 193 daily
after re-reading yes you will need more storage,
question, how much do you love your king? if you already have a town name and you can make your crests. well 'F' the king and think about YOUR villagers. remember kings come and go in the game.
Hopefully your village will stand forever!
The problem is that the game doesn't give you any indication of what the king will demand until you accept it. Honestly this kind of requirement shouldn't be the first thing he asks of you, not if you accept in Autumn of the first year.
Granted, now I know, and I will avoid the king's tasks until my settlement is a fully-fledged city and not just a house with a few workshops.
I like what the devs have done, but this was my first time trying a king's challenge, and it's quite a shocker. Maybe for new players, the herald should give you details about the challenge before you decide to accept, instead of it being some sort of blind-date deal.
I spend a lot of time researching on reddit/game wikis. There's so much this game doesn't tell you until you're in over your head. Lots of trial and error restarts. For example I married and moved my spouse into the house and then the game says I am not meeting firewood requirements, I start panicking and trying to build resource storage building as quickly as possible (didn't have one yet, had food storage at least, didn't know what the villagers would need because it has been so long since I played), but then realize that I can just throw a few pieces of firewood into the chest in our house and it satisfies the requirement. I still don't fully understand how storage is shared and what gets used first. That and water. I assumed the water in the river next to my village would work. Nope. Gotta get a bucket and fill it myself, or build a well, which seems redundant when there's a river 20 meters away.
As for the priority; for personal needs (food, drink, firewood) villagers first take what's in their house chests. And only when that's all gone, they take from the food storage (food and drink) or resource storage (firewood).
For their work needs (ingredients, tools and resources) they first take what's in the chest of their work building, and only when that's gone they take from the storages.
What they produce/gather however, they first put back in the storages. Only when those are full (or non-existant) they put it in the chest of their work building.
