Honeycombs
Just noticed that there's no real reason why the game trades honeycombs instead of just...you know...honey.
Honey would require some sort of jar of course, but that would put it more in line with all the other husbandry jobs which also require something. And it would give the beekeeper something to actually do instead of just watching the bees.
It's also more logical that honey in a jar would not spoil or spoil slowly and that you can transport it that way.
How would you even transport 3000 honeycombs (yes I have that much. There's an enormous disparity between how much honey one stand produces and how little a tavern needs.)?

So can anyone think of a reason for this?

It a video game is the reason.

Because gameplay.

Part of me thinks they did this on purpose as an easier way to get that 1-million coin achievement.

The most efficient food and coin source afaik is still just a village full of apiaries, houses, & market stalls.
The wax was used as well for candles and scrip tablet. Nothing wasted.
