Besides that a lot of maps online are outdated. But you can ask the hunters in NPC villages to mark wolf spawns on your in-game map for some coins.
Gizela in Lesnica can help you. And the other one, I think, is in Tutki.
You're just not going to where they are! There are wolves:
SE of Sambor's House.
N of Jezrirca going right at the splits the path between Denica & Gostovia as you travel north.
Halfway between Denica & Lesnica as the crow flies.
One-third the way up from Lesnica to Rolnica
One the Road to Hornica north of the town between the two streams.
In the foothills near the big pond SE of Denica.
On the RH side of the road heading south out of Denica at the intersection that gives you the option of heading to Lesnica.
Except for the Hornica road I've shot wolves in all these places. The only I haven't shot wolves on the road to Hornica is because I haven't gone there yet because I'm not quite ready for a horse.
EDIT:
Just did the Vengence! quest for my son, Albrecht. Killed two wolves on the path to Hornica. As I was processing them, got attacked by three more.
Believe me, wolves, once you start moving around the map, become an annoyance. An annoyance that can be fatal if you're not ready for them or are already on low health.
Wolves are in heavily wooded areas, particularly spruce forest. You can often (but not always) find Wisent nearby.
It seems that wolves spawn at dusk and there are only a handful in each location.
In my experience, while fighting one wolf, don't be surprised when 1-2 more join in.
A neat trick is to be in a wolf location and look for a rabbit nearby. You probably won't have to wait very long for a wolf to appear hunting the rabbit, giving you a perfect shot while the wolf is distracted.
I keep getting wolf hunting quests. King wants me to kill 19 of them now, and I'm afraid I'll hunt them to extinction before I get there.
Best experience with wolves so far is I was running home one night and came upon two wolves killing a moose. I waited until they were engaged, then killed both wolves and came home loaded with meat, having stolen the prey and butchered the predators. I felt very accomplished in a "The Long Dark" sort of way. :)
I have interacted int he past with both Gizella and Rajmund (Tutki) and I do not recall any animal location maps in their wares. I also do not recall any dialogue options to buy animal locations but I did not aggressively pursue their dialog trees. Will engage again.
And yes, like wizard said; you can swap trough the filters on the map so you see all the animal spawn points you have discovered already.
For me, I always run into more wolves than i want, so I don't find them particularly rare.
Hell, I wish we could give our villagers a nickname like we can name our animals or fields; cause then I would name my Racimir "the Wolfslayer" because of how many he has killed by now. :-)
