How do you keep from getting bored?
I am very much a noob.

I have gone in and harvested sticks, stones, reeds, and logs, killed a couple of whatever they call it (it is like a bison), and met the first fellow in town, and built a house.

I used the online map (Very similar to the online map for RDR2 Online) to locate a stack of logs and the bison like animals.

I thought I'd love it without any possible PVP in it or ganking and such as in MP games.

But I am already bored to tears with the game.

I love SP games and in MP games like PVE, so I figured I would love it.

I came from many years and version of MSFS, RDR2 Online, Elite Dangerous, and Star Citizen.

I'll give this a fighting chance, I just hope it is not always so boring.

Please don't hate on me, I am not knocking the game and want to love it.

Maybe gathering and building is not for me.

What do you most enjoy in this game? Thank you.

@caaront: You are not alone, I got just as far as you. Built 2 or 3 houses, a little farm and boredom struck. I'm afraid we might not be the audience for this one.

I guess it depends on what sort of thing holds your interest. I think games like Banished or the Anno series would be a good comparison. The difference (and it's quite a large difference) is that you're not experiencing everything from above. You're down in the middle of it and it becomes incredibly involving when you start to get things going with your economy, developing and balancing your workforce, establishing relationships, etc. In the beginning, you're just getting to know your environment and learning how to do things. But once you get those things down, the game really takes off and you really start to feel that you're a part of this community and they rely on you to keep things running smoothly. Sorry if that sounds corny, but that's the way I experience it. But if you're looking to suck down a bunch of energy drinks and then mow down a never ending onslaught of vicious evildoers, you're probably in the wrong place. I think most people think of this as a place to go and chill.

True. Game need more activity for players.
This game remind me Dawn of man or Guild 2.
Both have similar ideas but more things to do in game.
I think it would be more involved if there would be raiders attack on your village.
There is already raiders In the game, could be fun if those who sit somewhere on the map unvisited will eventually travel to your town to get some loot. Creating a health issues for your people. And so, herbalist hut could be meaningful.

If there would be like rival families, fellow traders who will compete with you for market, its also would make game even more fun.

This game can be developed in so many ways. I wish devs won't stop on it's current state, and will go further. This can be real gem.

If you can ignore the building/managment Kingdom Come: Deliverence is pretty dope.

So you and your people will have to defend yourself.

The problem is that, since this is such an economy-based game, having bandits start killing off your villlagers would really throw a monkey-wrench into things.

You could them not die but very unhappy and damage your buildings and taking a part of your resources from the storage

there is another game... something like "before we left" where the only kind of evil are space whales (no joke) and goblin camps that take resources from you and destroys buildings but its more of a timely setback

You took on a Wisent that early, and you're bored? Good Grief. I would have needed sedating if I had tried that.

The game is what you make of it your self. It doesn't take you by the hand and force you to have fun. You have to look for it, as fun is for every player different. That's also the reason why you can adjust the game to your liking.

You get bored, you just quit and do something else.

And then later you return to it because you got bored with whatever else you did.

Vicious circle.

Every game ever made. And I say that as someone from the dark days of gaming where Pong was cutting edge!

Right now I'm playing this game. But I'm also replaying Skyrim, I have an active Rimwold colony, I'm thinking hard about getting back into Cyberpunk 2077 since I didn't finish it (loved it but made too many mistakes), still have to finish my Witcher IIII campaign though I'm getting close...

I might reinstall Dawn of Man. There are a couple of city builders I may reinstall and play again...

And so it goes...

For me, I keep it interesting by taking it extra slow. (xp and technology on 50%, taxes on 1000%, villagers needs on 750% and 30 day seasons). That and the story I play out in my head where I don't buy from vendors so everything has to be self produced or scavenged from the barrels and sacks on the map. I don't recruit that many people either, so I'll depend a lot on the children of the people I eventually recruit. I start over when I die without an heir etc.
The slow progress keeps it interesting for me cause it'll take a very very long time before i have a fully build-out village.

But we all have our preferences and it's also possible that this game might just not be for you.

It's probably just not for me, I love the first person view, I use virtual cockpit in games that have that and only use thrid person when making SSs or video.

I figured it would be okay because I do so much running around on foot and horseback in RDR2 Online. About the wisent hunting, I just made sure I had plenty of spears, it takes about 3 spears and they go down.

I mainly like driving and flying sims, and as laid back as I am I guess this one might be a klittle too laid back for me.

I love not having humans involved interupting my play, I thought I'd seen toxicity as bad as it gets in the military and situations I have been in, and as a prison guard and being on the SORT team and in private security, but multiplayer gaming with young folks is a whole new level of toxicity, lol.

I'll try to stick it out a bit, thank you all.

I enjoy building my village and being creative with decorating it. It becomes a nice chill place to just explore and observe. I enjoy it greatly for scenery. Once it comes alive with villagers and animals, it become a great bit of background ambiance while the villagers manage the town and i sit by a lake and work on my other monitor
