Give them some time, they tend to level up fairly quickly and as a result they will be cooking faster as well.
we sure need a way to add priorities to food and wood usage. that's one of the reasons ive suggested adding the ability to create scripts in the game, for workers and for things like food / wood priorities.
The simpler meals and soups should be made in the tavern but I would like to see a bakery where all the bread, pie and tart making is done and a brewery where the juices, mead and wines are produced. And while we're at it, a cheesemaker would be great to process the milk.
This game is set in early medieval Europe so none of those will be possible I'm afraid. Potatoes originate from southern america and were not introduced into Europe until somewhere in the mid 15 hundreds and sushi was only introduced in Europe in the last century.
I want sushi for dinner now though, yam!
Make more than one tavern.. use one as a bakery, another for a brewery, and a third for a pub...
