Building limit
I looked around on this forum for an answer but it seems that everyone has been worried about a 65 building limit. I can’t get past a 5 building limit. I finished the main story line and solved the murder (kind of already knew who was guilty there). Have done a bunch of side quests. But still have a build limit of 5. I haven’t recruited anyone yet because I can't really offer them jobs without work being established. I will say that I'm still in the first season if that makes a difference. Any explanation of what I'm doing wrong would help.

You need to complete the chapters of the game, that increases the building limits. You have completed the story quests.

The limit is 70 now btw; not 65. And you can double that in the customisation settings. But yes, like Not MrBallen says, doing the chapter quests (survive a season, hunt an animal, build a barn etc) increase the building limit, which is also shown if you look at the chapter quest in the journal.

Small hint though; this game is a slow burn. There's no need to rush through it to try and get everything done in the first season. :-)

And if I remember correct, the building limit in the newest map "Oxbow" could be 200 with settings. I would change to this map, after completing the main story in the valley (also to see the quests and content there).

There is also an other way to increase it as you wish. But be careful for achievements, increase the building limit = increase the village steps to grow

That's not the case. The limit is the same for both maps. Only difference is that on Oxbow you unlock the maximum limit straight away, as there are no chapter quests there.

You probably mean the 200% setting.
The normal maximum is 70 buildings. 200% would therefore be 140 buildings. This is the absolute maximum if you set the setting to 200%.

Chapter 2 is limited to "survive a season", so you're going to be limited to 5 in the first season no matter what you do. How long have you set your seasons if you've done the entire main quest without advancing past the first spring? 30 days is a bit of a red herring; I rarely go for more than 5.

Not sure that I would survive the winter if I didn't have more time. Wouldn't I need to produce winter clothing and stuff? I didn't go for 30, but five seems way too short.

I've survived winters just fine on 3-day seasons; you have to do one of two things. Either get at least one and preferably two pieces of good-quality cold-weather gear (at least 50% cold resistance) from vendors or spend most of the earlygame crawling the roads looking for abandoned camps. Of course, you should be taking the cold resistance Survival perks (the ones that raise your temperature tolerance by a total of 6 C.)

It's different on much longer seasons, of course, but I find the game drags a bit too much on 30-day. If I'm playing that way, my rule of thumb is generally to "sleep until next season" once I've done all the NPC quests and planted all my crops for that season. Rarely takes more than 5 days, 6 at the absolute most.

Not really how I want to play. I would rather have longer seasons. As I said earlier, I don't do thirty day seasons, more like twelve or so. But I think it needs more time for me that 3 or 4 days. I just wondered how to get the increases. If I have to wait for the next season, that's fine.
