Play with only wife and son in village?
Wondering if anyone has played w/o recruiting villagers aside from a wife? Sounds like a fun challenge. It would be laborious and lonely for sure, but I like the notion of a sweet, tiny village.
Yes, you would not be able to complete all the “story challenges/quests” (I recall one was get 10 villagers) and would building limits be a problem? Would you be capped at 10 buildings, I cannot recall the cap and if it’s contingent on population? Let’s see, if it IS only 10: 1-house, 2-resource shed, 3-food Storage (could put food in resource shed, kitchen, & house storage instead as you wouldn’t need much food stored for only 3 peeps), 4-kitchen, 5-wood cutter, 6-stable, 7-fold, 8-barn, 9-workshop, 10-smith OR tailor (not in that order)?!? Am I forgetting any crucial buildings or deal breakers? It could work!
I’ve read other players talk about going solo, anyone try it? Thoughts? Suggestions? :D

Its possible and i read someone played it in this way. The food storage isn´t necessary. To deliver food for your wife and son its enough to put it in the house storage. So you have enough for smith and tailor.
The only work you can´t do by yourself (but your wife/son can do) is effectiv livestock farming. You can´t collect eggs, feathers, manure and honey.
You would have a very slow progression, because your workers don´t deliver tech points and it could get fast boring, because its not many thing to do. And the crafting part is just idle like, i like to let my workers do that part, instead of me.

Each to their own, I guess. Not fun in the way I would define it. Harder, yes, but more enjoyable?

I’m considering the challenge until the next update. I know someone has done it successfully- share your experience!

The quest to get 10 villagers comes fairly late in the quest chain, so I think you would have more than 10 buildings (but I can't remember exactly where it falls). In terms of keeping the village going, it would probably work best if you have your wife be a woodcutter (because trees respawn so slowly if you cut them yourself). You can manage all of the other tasks yourself if you have to.

You don't need a kitchen if you don't have an NPC cook, unless you really want to bake pies.

you always can rise the town and then go somewhere wih your family and a chicken, and build a house somewhere else.
I just copy paste my comment from a previous discussion;

I started solo but rapidly found out that was missing something so I get married and have a son that force me to keep an eye on there needs on top of my own.

I play with no animals, so I have to hunt, fishing and grow my food. To make it more interesting, I don't buy nothing, I must found my seeds from barrels and bags and every years get more seeds from the harvest.

I also don't ware winter clothes that way I really have to survive winter. Once I unlock the proper skill ( sorry I don't remember the name of the skill that give you extra degrees) when reaching level three I don't freeze so rapidly but still have to warm up once in a while.

I don't build the resource and food storage, I found that that once my wife empty a bucket of water, it disappear so I have to continuously build more buckets
Also all food, wood and water goes into the house chest, the food also get rot faster so I have to keep an eye on it.

All the shed and shops must be built next to the resource, like the extraction shed next to a clay pit, herbalist in a flower field, smithy next to a mine... That make me travel a lot to reach all the resource that I need.

I grow crops to get some extra money just to buy the unlocked recipes that I need. I play four days so I don't have to much time to do everything in each seasons. I don't do the quests only the first necessary chapter to get the buildings limit (set at 200%) I also increased the technology multiplier to 120% because I don't have settlers to help with that. The enemy damage / hp are set to 150%. And I set the tax to 0 of course.

I have to say that is playing a totally different game and I love it.

TY JCH, that’s exactly what I did which made me start to consider trying this challenge from scratch . :) It isnt the same since I still benefit from my villagers in the thriving big city, and since they helped unlock everything, ya know?

Alive, you’re hard core! Kudos! Sounds like a great challenge. Good info, I will up the experience% so it won’t be a boring grind. TY. I already play with unlimited stamina and carry capacity and I cannot/will not go back, so that too helps with the grind.

I’m looking forward to choosing a beautiful new spot for this tiny town! The age old dilemma of where?!?
Who else has tried with only your family or solo? TY!

For a small village, take a look at the east of gostovia. Its like ~200 meters east and 50 meters south of the sea, follow the creek. (i want spoiler what you find).

On top of a hill for a beatiful sight.

Or the memorial tree south of the middle mine:

Link to more background about the tree:

That´s all beatiful places, but with limited areas for middle/biigger villages.

Ty! Pretty spot and my big city is next to that (I think this is what you were referring to). I have too many game hours for any spoilers :D

The memorial tree area is a great suggestion! I’m also considering the triple falls area. I initially chose the central lake with a view of the mountains, pretty and flat, but I think your suggestions are better. TY!
