Platform info needed
I am planning on building a platform/bridge from my island to the main land. But I think I read that villagers need to be persuaded to use them, How do I achieve this. My farmers are taking half a day to wade across the water, walk down a path, cross a bridge walk down another path, cross another bridge , walk down another path, pass by and gossip to the hunters in the hunters hut, have a drink of dandelion tea, (i know thats not in the game and I have know idea where they got the recipe from), before finally getting to the farm hut, .................. they could just use the other gate and wade across the water and ...There they are at work, ready to WORK. I did time them rather than been at work @08.30 sharp, they wonder in at around 13.30-14.00 depending on what the latest gossip is.

so how to encourage my villagers to use the bridge ( I have not built it yet)?
I was thinking just standing at the 'wrong gate' with my cross bow and hope they'd get the message, but this is a peaceful game(I know that, as I did try to shoot one, for not following rules) I found out their semi immortal. Age is the only thing that kills them.

Just try it first. Sometimes it works without any problems.

Everything else depends on the specific situation. Once I just followed the Villagers and blocked off individual passages (through rocks) that they wanted to use, so that my bridge was the next best option. Sometimes it helps to fence off the entire bank area.

...It may also help to move the Farmshed a little, e.g. closer to the shore, and try it out a little. I think I once read something along these lines, but I can't give you any guarantees.

I have nothing helpful to add. I just wanted to express my admiration for your expressive narrative of the daily (and inefficient) lives of the average MD villager, NotMrBallen. Bravo. :)

I dont have the money to experiment, we literally live season to season. every season I run up to that guy (still cant remember his name 'Toabald' or similar, I just say hey mate, do you want these) he's the creepy bloke in Lesnica, the guy thats says bye darling(yep creepy guy). That just about pays the taxes, the little left over buys a new xbow when needed. I am not ready to move on from copper tools(that would make the game too boring), I need a mine before that happens. Over information, is because newbies tell you how to play the game and then the same newbies complain the game is not fun enough. Hopefully players like (I might might miss a few names here), Ookapia, morri, therealchris alivesince19?? 61? and even WOW (Wizard of Woz) understand the depth you can take this game!

I know how to make my game more profitable I choose knot to.

I know you meant the word "not" so I'll try not to get myself tied into a knot over it. :steamhappy:

Can you show us a screenshot of the map and mark the farmer's houses and farmshed?
Maybe someone has already built there and can report from experience for the exact location.

Otherwise, your best chance is probably to start with the bridge where your people usually enter the water and block the "wrong" paths step by step. Since you probably haven't bought the blueprints yet, I strongly advise against the first one (too shallow for large bridges). On the picture you can see all 5 in the right order. If you are interested in more general bridge building tips, I can think of a few more.

The cheapest and only safe option would be to move the farmer's house so that it is very close to the farmshed. I don't suppose that's an option, but it would be the safest bet.

Hey Ookapia... I just spent 7 hours creating a test village for bridges. I have 2 houses and then just across the creek have a blacksmith, wood/clay, hunter and woodcutter building. This is in the waterfall area just under the cliff where the abandon shack is. Can you suggest one of the bridge structures?
Ookapia Aug 8, 2024 @ 1:48pm
The last bridge is identical to the bridge that is already there. Structurally, all 5 work there.
[I'm happy to answer questions, but I don't feel comfortable disrupting another thread with unfinished issues to do so. Perhaps you could start a new thread next time if you'd like to discuss this further.]

will do that... ran out of money so it may be awhile....

I am back, with more issues (ok I had issues before..lol) worked through the night, earned money, sold my wife(we already had a child, so I know no more nookie for me), so all is good. Bought the wide bridge recipe(is that the right term), ...
!)buying wide bridge opens all wide bridge options ,straight, long ramp etc, is that the way it is supposed to be ? no buying each on separately, I think this is a Morri question there.
2)built my bridge(A very nice looking bridge I might add), and my i̶d̶i̶o̶t̶s̶, villagers walk over it, only to get to the end, enter the river and walk back to the island. My m̶i̶n̶i̶o̶n̶s̶ villagers are here to do my bidding, not saunter around the valley sketching dam owls.
Oh the question, how do I stop my dear people from unnecessary using the bridge and then back tracking on themselves, before any smart *** suggests a toll (ie charge them to use the bridge) I tried that, replies are 'Yer I'll pay tomorrow' or 'I got the month already paid'

I think you have to fence in areas that you don't want them to use.

Nope that does not work, the island is already completely 'fortified'(ready for bandit raids). 3 gates leading in and out. 2 gates are low fenced so i can walk over them, and villagers respect them, they use the 1 good gate walk over the bridge(I did block off from village wall to bridge so they have no choice). if this does not make sense, I understand, does anyone have a link to a free way to video(is the right term video the game so I can upload to YT.

I'm sorry, my language skills are a bit lost here:
Is your question how to create a video of your gameplay, so that you can show us the situation?

If so, then there are several options in this thread:

Since farming is the only thing in the game that actually requires your peeps to be there to get any work done it just seems that always planning to place X number of houses to hold X number of farmers is just easier than trying to make them do what the game isn't, hasn't been able to and probably wont be able to do well. Just my take as everyone's mmv.
Small dev team, limits to work within both for them and us.
What's that old saying about beating them more til morale improves?
The new platforms and docks/bridges are nice to look at though, add a lot to the ambiance.

I see now. Nah, you made sense. I just didn't read it properly.

I will play around in game and see what I can offer better.
