How does farming work with your npc villagers? (Valley play through)
I don't know how to task the npc player to plant rye seed.
I have a message saying there is no wheat for the worker but I never assigned that to anyone because I can't even figure out how to assign anything.

I put a sickle, a bag, fertilizer in the crate and they do all of this automatically but I don't know about getting them to seed fields.

Also is there a way to display the fields so you can indicated what field gets what or will the npc farmer just put down all the same seed in every plot?

Yes. Assign a crop to the field in the Management tab. Make sure tools, fertilizer, & seed are in Storage. When the season is correct, they will work the fields nearest their assigned Farm Shed.

Thanks for the guide.
However Im having trouble assigning a barn worker to the field.

I can not activate the field icon at all so I'm unsure what to do at this point.

You need a farm shed to have workers on a field

Also, you don't assign a worker "to the field".

Assign the worker to a Farm Shed.

They'll automatically assign themselves to the nearest field once you've designated a crop to your field(s) within the field Management screen.

Maybe an easier way for you would be seeding them yourself, once.
If that wasn't changed, the field should automatically save what you've done.

You can find the field management here:

People have reported though that there's a bug with some of the icons showing the wrong vegetable atm. So maybe wait til it's fixed to not confuse yourself even more.

It takes some practice to get farming automated smoothly in MD. Its not really tutorialized well.

Yes I think I have it all jacked up at this point.

I don't feel it's a very user friendly interface.

I just pulled all my seeds from the workers station so they have nothing to plant.

I'll let them plow, fertilize and harvest.

I have a lot of farm so looking at the ground following seed plots tends to make me feel sick after some time so I wish I could get this to work for me.

It would be nice, if we could zoom in close on the general map, click a plot and name it there. I have so many fields so its hard to tell what field I'm actually trying to manage.

If I were to start again, I guess I could label them as soon as the grow plot was created but at this point, its a huge headache.

I thought its possible now to name fields ? , for what reason ever , it should be no problem , to manage this a bid and to be honest, farming sucks hell, except for Flax and Wheat, there is not really a need or use for the Farming stuff.

No use for farming? Are you joking. Oats and rye for animal feed. Vegetables for cooking if you're at that stage. Orchards for fruit for cooking or the tavern.

I always have a variety of crops planted.

Same here. Farming is the core revenue generator.

I agree with you guys that farming is important. Not only for a variety of foods and recipes but also for revenue.

My problem is I created many fields ahead of time and didn't label them so now I have so many that its hard to determine what is what.

I'm seriously considering destroying the fields and rebuilding and relabeling them one at a time.

I just wish there was an easier way to see whats what.

Maybe add a menu to the gardening hoe similar to the build hammer where you can inspect, rename. assign crop. etc.

This method wouldn't necessarily replace the flexibility of whats currently in place but serves more as a general assignment and partner to what we have.

In simple terms, think of it like your cell phone or computer. We start with basic settings but we also have an advanced options setting to further tune and customize.

Whats in place right now, to me, feels like were starting with advanced settings.

Please don't get me wrong here. I love the flexibility to grow rye and wheat in the same field but sometimes I want to drop 150 seeds in the same plot all at once.
