Anyhow, it's some sticks and stones and in your quickcraft wheel (Default Q)
My bad, take Mark's answer over mine cause I havn't crafted one in a long time.
The most basic campfire (which is the only one you can build at the start of the game) just takes sticks.
You should start with a torch, but IIRC you have to equip it before you can use it (select it in your inventory and hit F).
But there's another problem, the main menu is now zoomed in with larger text which is offscreen on the left all but the last character of each option. And my display tells me it's now 2K instead of 4K which is probably causing the problem. If there's a setting in the menu to change the resolution I can't get to it.
Success! I managed to squeeze a little more light out of my Nvidia card enough to move about. I found a dried up stream and found a stone! Then another! I followed it along to a lake where there were reeds for straw. Dawn was breaking. The gods are looking down on me again. I made my first torch. Brilliant!
This was actually quite fulfilling in a way. Imagine how you'd feel in real life, stranded with very little resources, gathering a few rudimentary things and managing to make a torch.
