How do I craft a campfire?
I've plenty of sticks but I've searched around the crafting wheel and can't find how to make a campfire. I'm on only my second night and in total darkness. Not sure if sleep is needed as life-critical but I just wanted to pass the time till daylight so I could see. I can't do much at night until I have enough resources to craft torches.

Don't you need a torch to light the campfire? :S

Anyhow, it's some sticks and stones and in your quickcraft wheel (Default Q)
Camp Fires are under "Furniture and decorations" on the "Q" wheel. You need 16 sticksBUT you need a torch to light it. All you need for a torch is a stick and some straw which you can collect as reeds from a riverbank or a swamp. Also it's not too hard to find torches at abandoned camps or carts around the map.

The most basic campfire (which is the only one you can build at the start of the game) just takes sticks.

You should start with a torch, but IIRC you have to equip it before you can use it (select it in your inventory and hit F).

I've made a complete mess of this. I though building a campfire would make a simple campsite with a rudimentary blanket or something to sleep on. But I can't see any option popup except to light the fire - which I can't without a torch. I'm guessing once the fire is lit then maybe the option to sleep on the ground is offered? Anyway, I'm paralysed by the darkness so left it running until morning.

But there's another problem, the main menu is now zoomed in with larger text which is offscreen on the left all but the last character of each option. And my display tells me it's now 2K instead of 4K which is probably causing the problem. If there's a setting in the menu to change the resolution I can't get to it.

Hang on, I managed to fix the menu by guessing where to click and set the res back again. So all I now have to do is leave the game running till daybreak. It was 22:27 last time I looked.

That is correct. You can sleep by the campfire, but only when it's lit. And for that you need a torch.

I now have more sticks than you can shake a... stick at, but finding a stone is like trying to squeeze blood out of a... stone.

Success! I managed to squeeze a little more light out of my Nvidia card enough to move about. I found a dried up stream and found a stone! Then another! I followed it along to a lake where there were reeds for straw. Dawn was breaking. The gods are looking down on me again. I made my first torch. Brilliant!

This was actually quite fulfilling in a way. Imagine how you'd feel in real life, stranded with very little resources, gathering a few rudimentary things and managing to make a torch.

Stick at it, you'll soon have the medieval log-ic and be able to branch out into the crazy world of MD, it's tree-mendous...just avoid the bark-ing/ howling beasts until your bow becomes your best friend and you scoff at their threat. I'm loving every minute of it  keep an eye out for those easter eggs, carts, barrels of goodies and packages litter the map and winter is the best time to spot them, I've not seen something in summer/autumn because of the foliage and then found something valuable once the snow arrives in a place I'd already rummaged. Wine and beer are great for exchanging to currency to buy bows and arrows. It really is a hoot :steamhappy:

Thanks, I'll keep that in mind. I'm now finding a lot more stones anyway.
