In a larger settlement, repairs can take quite a while, and you have to find the damaged buildings first.
For me, the biggest advantage of the building hut is that all the buildings that need repairing are listed in the repair list. All you have to do is add them all to the work list, and that's all you (the player) have to do (assuming you have enough resources and tools in the warehouse). This takes about 10 seconds. Doing repairs yourself will take considerably longer.
Never had issues having to look long for a damaged building, only timewaster I had was checking buildings I expected to be damaged first day of the seasons to find out they had another season to go.
I guess if you're beyond the default values on maximum buildings it might start to come in handy because after a few hundred buildings you might lose track.
1 - I build all buildings in early game for experience point.
2 - I usually don't build many building at the same time.
3 - I usually have too many buildings in late game, but have very little need for new (like hitting the max building number?).
4 - I do have some buildings scatter all over the map.
5 - Very personal: I rather spend the [game] day watching other people work than running around with a hammer fixing buildings. Hunting, bow fishing, dung shoveling are all better than running around looking for damaged building.
Granted, in my example, we're talking over 100 buildings. I don't think it's an efficient use of resources/manpower in the earlier stages of the game, even though you can easily move that worker back and forth when needed.
I admitt that I'm quite the lazy player so even when I just have about say 30 buildings in my settlement, I just leave the repairs to the builder as soon as I have unlocked the building hut. It's just open the BH-menu, add all building jobs to the worklist and done you are. I don't even need to leave my house for that. xD
There's no faster and more relaxed way to take care of all repairs in your settlement than this.
