Not getting rot from expired food
I was hooked on this game a while back but took a long break from it to allow issues to be fixed and for new content to be released.

Now that I have returned, I am noticing an issue dealing with ROT.

If food spoils. does it no longer produce rot? I have checked my food storage, my main storage, all of the homes, my character inventory, etc.

The only Rot I have is from a couple of mushrooms I put in a composter .

Is this the only way to get rot now? Should their be rot in my storage if food spoils there?

Maybe there is something I have missed in an update since I last played.

Food left on the floor or left in the compost bin will turn to rot the next season. If you turn on the custom setting that you want to use food for decoration, it will no longer turn to rot when dumped on the floor, but will still do when you put it in the compost bin.

Food in chests and your inventory will slowly deteriorate when season changes and eventually turn to rot when it reaches 0%. This will take several seasons. So yes, once it spoils completely in your storage containers, you should find rot there.

Nothing about this principle has changed (other than them adding the compost bin and food deteriorating in all containers at the same pace as the food storage chest now).

Ok, well my blueberries, cheese and meats are not making rot.

I had 400 blueberries and not a single rot for fertilizer.

Are you sure no one has eaten this?

Im playing solo on Valley but I have well over 200 dehydrated meats on hand.

Can i be certain that no NPC is choosing the berries over the cooked or dehydrated foods? No.

How can I check this or filter what they consume?

Its been a while since I last played so I always though they ate the meats and fish first.

Good point. If you have no better food available, the villagers will eat rot.

You can disable foods: https://imgur.com/a/imqrJ2M but they will eat meat and fish first, rot is all the way at the bottom priority.

Food will definitely make rot. I think you may have missed something.

Also look for drinks, if water is missing berries could also be used for this.

I still produce a lot of rot in food storage. So, I'm pretty sure that it works normally.

Another way that rot can be consumed is barn worker turning them into fertilizer if that is set as one of the task.

My rot fertilizer is set to zero, I still have a little ways to go before i can find out about this next batch of berries will make rot of not for me.

Right now my meats, fish and buckets of water are very high and full, just waiting on spoilage.

Food will take a long time to rot in food storage. Decay per season: 6% for dried food, 9% for baked food, and 12% for raw/cook food.

Food will rot much faster in compost bin.

Drinks will not turn into rot. They will stay as is, with the exception of milk wich will turn into soured milk in the next season, no matter where you stored it.
