The ONLY building where distance actually matters, is the farm shed for your farmers. This because they physically have to be on the fields to be able to do their job, and there the animation you see, will also affect what they produce. When the work day starts, they'll travel from where they are to the farm shed they work at, and from their to the nearest available field/orchard. So it's important to keep their home and shed close to the fields to limit the travel time.
But for all other workers it doesn't matter.
As long as he produces the items you asked him to; it's all fine. Him standing around in the hut is only animation and doesn't mean he's not producing anything.
(You'll only see him doing the hunting animation when there's animals nearby, but this does not affect what he produces.)
