Fighting In This Game?
Are there, like, bandits that try to raid you or anything like that? Or is the closest thing to combat in this game shooting deer and maybe fending off wolves?

Bandits will attck you as you explore the map.
Mazquerade Feb 23, 2024 @ 11:31pm
no raids so far, you fight only animals and bandits at whom you stumble during exploration. (they are in some of the pre-made ruins, as well as randomly spawned in the wilderness each season)

If combat is important to you; it's better to skip this game (for now), as it's intended to be a rather peaceful city sim of a peasant's life.
There is an update coming this year called "armour, crests, shields and more", but we have no idea if that will indeed contain more combat, or if it's more decorative items and items for hunting:

The closest thing to combat is having braindead AI standing still for you to use as target practice with a bow

I'll ask simple questions for players who want to fight and kill and make this game a Battlefield! How do you imagine the fight? Invading a village? Will 50 bandits from respawnpoint come in a time period? Will the bandits kill people or set buildings on fire? In what time will the warehouse burn down? The dead people will then disappear? What will be the number of bandits during the attack? 4, 5, 100? Will the villagers in the field throw away their hoes and pick up their swords? Players who would just like to kill have other games available. This perfect game is not about killing people. I hope it stays that way in the future. I'm tired of reading these hype and primitive ideas from players who have played 10 minutes and would already be improving the game. Bandits as they were. Armor and weapons just as decoration or for sale.

I appreciate all these questions.
Actually I would love to get some recommendations for other games, because I do find it difficult to find some (which also include MD's features).
I have some play time in MD, and I find it boring after you have your village running. Nothing much to do at end-game. Part of the "fighting" suggestions stem from this boredom. If it's not going to be combat, then other features must be added to make it more interesting (e.g. make crafting more engaging - not just an animation).

I like 1st/3rd person games, which makes it harder to find.

Colony Survival is the goat of colony sim games. It looks fugly like Minecraft. But the gameplay is solid. It's the other way around with MD. Looks good, but doesn't offer much.
Conan Exiles has a slave mechanic, quality building system where you can get creative with and lots of exploration/combat.
Enshrouded is like Conan and Valheim, building system is top tier with a whole world you can actually change to your liking.
The Forest is older, no colony sim but survival. Sons of The forest just came out in 1.0 but it's not as good as the first one

Why make it seem like such an unreasonable ask? Many colony sim games have fighting as a mechanic, to the point where I am surprised it isn't here. Age of Empires and Civilization are perfect examples. You also have RimWorld, Dwarf Fortress, Northgard, Dawn of Man, etc.

In fact, in terms of presentation (UI/ graphics), I constantly mistake this game for Kingdom Come Deliverance, which is does have combat. Though it is entirely a different kind of game.

Anyway, I don't think combat is unreasonable. But it isn't here and that's a skip for me. Maybe Morri is right and they'll expand on it one day.

Your lack of imagination is disturbing, my friend. Why limit the possibilities and mechanics if this is a life simulation? During medieval times, there was no place in the world that wasn't at war. That's why there's no improvement in a game for people like you.

Really? Every village and hamlet in the entire world was at war in Medieval times? Really? The 1000 years spawn of the middle ages did have constant no stop war?

Sssh, don't burst their bubble. In the mind of some people every peasant had full plate body armour and a plethora of swords hidden under the bed in his fully furnished hut, so he could jump iin an instance to defend his village from the raiders that came knocking every week. Because, you know, movies. :steamhappy:

That's because movies are, you know, supposed to be entertaining. Combat is entertaining. You can sometimes even find it in some video games!

What's entertaining for some isn't for others though. I'm not against more combat in the game perse, just find it funny that so many are claiming that the game HAS to have combat because it took place somewhere in the middle ages.
