This is yet another nonsense game mechanic that needs an overhaul. It's ridiculous that an adult must take 2 full years to do nothing but care for a child if a couple has a child. There are some tasks, like cooking, drying meat, or crafting items such as spoons, plates, etc. that the parent caring for the child should still be able to do with a slight penalty. It's not like the kid never sleeps and it's not like they wouldn't actually be multitasking while taking care of the kid. I can understand why they wouldn't go out hunting, mining, or felling trees but there's no reason they can't do a little bit of gathering and crafting.
A friendly reminder that this is a game. Games have mechanics in them. Do you also question why a knight can jump over a bishop in a chess game? Is that a realistic portrayal of a battlefield?
Exactly I mean like how is a horse with a knight in full armor going to jump over a man 5-6 feet tall with 1 foot high hat on. Even show horses can barely manage 7 feet!?
Chess needs a patch, knight is OP and unrealistic
While I agree with your POV slightly, you are missing one major factor in your logic. Chess isn't trying to represent living in the Medieval times, and this game is. It has many realism mechanics that support that as well. Ex. 1) Having to eat and drink to survive. 2) A system to represent the passage of time. 3) A story quest line that talks about living in that time frame. etc... So if the game its self is going to try and represent a realistic portrayal of the Medieval times, then I see no problem with expecting more realism.
