I need FIRE! Lots and lots and LOTS of it!
I have this thing where I feel cold if my player character looks like he's cold. This definitely applies in the winter, but at night in the spring and fall, too. So I build lots of stone fire pits in town with stools/benches around them and put up a lot of standing torches (which cause tremendous lag) or standing lanterns (which seem to cause less lag, because they're not animated).

1. Every time I go into my house, I light the fire. It drives me crazy that my wife is often just standing there in the dark, especially if it's winter. She should be capable of starting a fire on her own, if she's in the house.

2. Nothing drives me to distraction more than a bunch of villagers sitting around a stone-cold fire pit in the middle of a blizzard. Good god! Light the fire! Sometimes an NPC will do this on their own - especially if they're walking around with a torch - but they should all be capable of it.

3. As I've mentioned in other posts, I cant' stand seeing toddlers walking around barefoot in the snow. Or worse, curling up and sleeping on the GROUND in winter. WTF?!

4. The first incarnation of the tavern has a great open grill to roast meat on and make stews. It's animated and glows with heat. I love it. Why do Taverns 2 and 3 just have dark, cold grills and ovens?

5. The trailer shows a blacksmith using the forge. His forge is glowing with hot coals. Mine is dead and unlit, even though it makes sounds like fire when my village blacksmith uses it.

Related issues to do with cold weather:

1. If I put on a fur hood and boots, I can ignore cold all winter. That seems wrong. Ice storms should be dangerous, even in winter clothes. Fur clothing should mitigate the harm the weather does to me, but not cancel out severe cold.

2. Jumping in the water in winter should be dangerous. Even after you get out, your clothes should take time to dry and decrease your cold resistance.

Lol I completely agree, especially about npcs sitting at a cold fire pit and getting in the water in winter, it makes me chill myself to just see it. Why have all these fire options when not using it, I built fire pits at every house, in every town they are lit automatically when night falls, but not at our own towns.. In winter they should be lit all the time, if they use firewood that much, let us at least enjoy the fires they're making with it

I feel the seasons like you as well. This is testament to the realism of the environment. I'm always lighting fires in houses since they don't do it themselves - it looks more lived in at night. I wish the NPC's did it themselves because they are using all that firewood after all.
I also feel I should get really cold crossing the river or lake in winter or cool off by doing it in summer. If I had to make a camp fire to warm up after a crossing or fishing by wading, or go for a run with a torch, that would seem more believable.
Why is there no permanent fire in Tavern III like there is in Tavern I ?
I like the social look of Tavern I which seems very suited to being near the water being so open to the environment and with the welcoming griddle warmth.
I agree the forge should also have some hot coals. Maybe that will come with charcoal making as a craft one day.

Oh I totally agree!!! How do we get devs to listen to us? Light fires in every lived in house when someone is there, clothe the poor infants in winter, and fire up the forge and ovens!!!

I would like to see a choice of building styles after you hit the top of the building ladder. Like a open air Tavern III....peace

I think the devs are listening. The prefer suggestions under the Suggestions thread (but I like to chat with people about things, and that thread isn't great for that) and I gather they're more likely to interact with players on Discord. I don't like the format of Discord, so I only pop in there now and then.

At any rate, they do occasionally pop into these forums and I know there are people in the forums who relay things to them.

Well, at least the ovens, grills, and forges have smoldering coals in them now! When I wrote this, they were stone cold. But, yeah, the villagers still aren't smart enough to light a fire in the fire pit. I have to do it for them. And go into their houses to light their fires. (I don't have to do either of these things, but it bugs me to have everything dark and cold.)

This was mentioned back in early access too. Sometimes stone campfires stay lit for days, sometimes they go out and surely it would be possible for workers to either go into the tavern (if there is one) or stay indoors until work time rather than sitting oblivious in the rain and snow. They also demand wood supplies but never light their fires.

Really it's not that important but it does rather get on my nerves to see them behave like that.

I think once you have villagers patrolling with torches the village fire gets lit automatically at lighting up time.
