so given your settings...
Don't know about the Donkey.
Also, i's always better to ride an empty horse/donkey and keep the stuff in your inventory.
No matter, if you have unlimited weight or not.
I used my Horse for traveling and my Donkeys as Mining-Companions.
Played with weight-limit.
That said I think it would be nice if they had another use too, after all there would be no real reason to keep donkey around when you have horses and thats a damn shame.
I appreciate it a lot.
The donkey is smaller and a bit slower than the horse. So better to control in the narrow environment of a cave.
It has a higher carrying capacity,
and at least it always felt to me like the Donkey has a much higher tolerance for overloading
until it can't move at all.
Iirc, I carryed 350kg out of my mine. Of course it's slow then, but imo fast enough for this task.
I agree with you about the donkeys.
In the game you regularly hear the people around you comment about how stupid it looks to sit on such an animal. For many years now, donkeys have been called stupid and associated with stupid farmers. Horses, on the other hand, have always been associated with nobility and are therefore seen as noble animals.
In my opinion, no one who has achieved any status in this game wants to be seen on the back of a donkey.
And in my opinion it was even more stupid to let peoples change settings in active games, it destroyed all forms of possible contest, the game would have, much like the old contests in Guild .
If you think other people shouldn't be able to play a game they purchased and play either solo or with friends not as a kind of MMO, but instead should conform to whatever kind of dickmeasuring contest in a computergame you want to put in place of a life, I recommend going out more.
For me it is a godsend to be able to adjust the game somewhat to my liking. This way I can slowly get to know the game without having to fear every sound and face death every moment.
When I'm a bit more experienced I can go back to how the game was intended.
I agree that unlimited weight would make the game to easy and get boring quickly but Im glad we can change some settings, I finally increased tech gain after having 25 villagers and tons of them crafting along with myself and not even unlocking market stalls yet.
