Having said that, I've heard of wolves battling bandits, but this is the first time for a bear. That's pretty cool actually.
I did see a muskrat going after a bear once. It was a very long way from me so couldn't see much, other than the muskrat would run at the bear, push the bear back, retreat, and the bear would kind of return to where it was, never seeming to engage the little critter. This went on for a spell until I got bored and headed to wherever I was going before their party caught my eye.
Surprisingly, the Wolve won.
It was great, more loot for me!
Thats because Wolves are the hardest enemy in the game hilariously enough. I would rather take on 5 bears then 1 wolf. Wolves are faster, drain your stamina and smaller so they are a nightmare to kill. Where as a Wissent and a Bear are slow lumbering beast.
You cant even runaway from a wolf if the fight goes bad cause they are also faster.
Honestly they're stupid easy to kill, even with just fists (until their hp gets too low and they try to run away). Just get them to loop in the charge, bite, and run routine and you just have to move sideways to avoid their bite. You can counter with a punch or whatever as they dart past you.
The only stamina usage is when you punch or whatever, you never need to sprint. Just practice with unlimited hp for a couple minutes and you'll realize they're honestly just pathetic with their programmed attack animations.
Edit: Just to be clear I'm talking about only fighting one at a time, I find it's better just to run in a straight line to lose agro and then return and lure one away at a time.
