The end is Nigh mission is bugged

I found a bug in the mission in the part right after you bring the guy his listed items.
I had the items and gave them to the man and he told me to put them at a tree.
But when I got there I discovered that I no longer had the items.
Since the mission required me to have the items before I could complete the last step and that I did not stop to do anything else.
I concluded that the man at the last step received the items but did not hand them back to me.
