Seasons, a comparison of time.
Since the game was released on early access, there have been a great number of discussions regarding the length of time. More specifically, many have asked that the seasons last longer.. “more days per season.”

I just wanted to show a comparison of time.. not the game time.. but real time in relation to the game time..

Your characters life span is roughly 18 – 60
After which you perish and your heir takes over. ( Dynasty )

The following shows you how long that will take by default and what it would take if altered..

3 days per season = 200 hours real time for the conclusion of your characters lifespan. Or the passing of the first generation.. that’s a pretty long time in itself. If you are a casual player that puts in 6 hours a day. It will take you over a month of playing. (33 days)

Note. all values are approximations which do not include game pauses for village management, trading, etc…

Now watch what happens when you add more days per season..

5 days per season = 350 real hours
10 days per season = 700 real hours
15 days per season = 1100 real hours
20 days per season = 1400 real hours

Can you really see yourself playing for 700 hours before your heir takes over the village?

This is why the majority of people playing will say that 3 days is the right amount. Some will even say it’s too much already..

Something to consider when asking for more days per season…

  2. in the current game version you can adjust the days/season as you like and also the lenght of daylight has been changed?
If you are unhappy with the current state of the game, please make a new topic and do not resurrect a long-buried topic from its grave. This is all the more true as the topic itself became completely obsolete by now due to the changes that have been made to the game.

And with those wise words: topic closed to avoid further confusion. :)

sounds like 10 days would be perfect.

Yes, I can really see myself playing even more than 700 hrs before my heir takes over the village.

In the roadmap is nowhere mentioned more modern versions of the curent buildings. There isn't even mentioned more modern technology. So when your son takes over it will be more of the same. Personally , I don't see this game as a real dynasty game.

I don't understand, but what prevents you from playing the game slowly?

With 3 days in a season, it is continuous races, to have time to do everything and still do quests. If you don't add days, then add at least the length of the day. For 3 days at the moment, you barely manage to go through 1-2 quests and plant one field.

I have 3 workers and I am in no hurry to grow the village quickly. I'm interested in doing something on the map, and I like to cut wood myself, plant fields, hunt. While I'm running through the woods, it's already over (

No, No. You can shorten the night by sleeping. For some quests you need the night. At some point you will need all this time.

Personally I never needed the night except for stealing pottery from the Gostovia tavern. I don't like hunting, I don't take any night hunting quests and I never work at night. And I have a lot of fun playing the game, currently in year 15, huge village with 7 kids, a lot of sheep, 10 500 reputation and 30 building limit.

I've suggested a couple times now to increase the aging rate. Even 200 hours for a single generation is waaay too long. In a game that's supposed to span many generations, no thanks.

If people were to age say 5 or 10 years older per game year, we could increase day length or number of days per season and still be able to play through multiple generations in a (relatively) timely fashion.

Even having to wait 18 frickin game years for a kid to grow up into a working adult is way too long. If it were to take 2 or 3 years, that would be much more acceptable.

Again, don't look at a single kid or a single generation, but multiple kids over multiple generations and the current time people age is abysmal.

When you have enough population and everything is taken care of by your villagers (food, wood, production, farming, crafting) then you have all the time in the world to do anything you want (quests, craft, make money etc.)

I am at year 8 and just waiting for the days (seasons) to pass to I can just continue on with the main story-line. Only thing I do is some quests here and there and I just finished building a huge palisade (took 6 Iron Hammers to complete) around my Town just for the lols and to kill time, cause there's nothing to do.

sorry no.

Think of people who acually have a job and want to play this game after work for 2-4 hours a day maximum.

2hrs a day it would need them 350 days to advance one generation -- a full year RL LOL
4hrs a day its still half year to advance just one generation.

This game is designed as an Dynastie game, that should go over several generations and not only one.

Its absolutely unrealistic that a medival settlement reaches city status in just one generation, which should be to final goal to achieve in this game (as far I read it).

How someone who is not unemployed or already retired should be able to reach that goal in reasonable RL time with such long sessions.

Even with hardcore 10hrs a day playtime it would take to long, if you ask me!

Personally I think sessions take already to long with 3 days / session and I really would like a game mechanic to skip days. (f.e. rest at campfire or sleep at daytime!)

Is it just me, or did time already change?
When I first started playing the game (0.1.1.1?), I measured it as 12 minutes from the time I first woke up to the time I was allowed to sleep (12 game hours), or 1 real life minute per game hour.
Yesterday (0.1.2.4), I decided to do some overnight crafting. I was making 70 potage which take 5 seconds each, or almost 6 minutes real time. So, I was expecting 6 game hours to pass. It only took 3 game hours. So, 2 real life minutes per game hour.
So, I think that at some point the devs doubled the length of each game day from 24 real life minutes to 48 real life minutes.

Its possible, however there is no mention of it within the update notes...

longer days would not be a bad idea really. but longer seasons by way of additional days would be painful if trying to experience the Dynasty portion of the mechanics...

Agreed!

I'm over 200 hours in and am on year 15. Time spent in management, inventory, etc. that counts as time playing. At this pace I'll need 1000 hours for a change to heir :P
CellNav Oct 15, 2020 @ 10:59am
I'm playing the test beta 0.1.2.4.

1 Game Hour = 2 minutes real time (same as before).
Each season is 130 real minutes long (7am first day -> Midnight day 3).
Each Year = 26 hours real time (non-stop, no menu delay).

Players wanting more time are new players. They have been told it gets better but they refuse to believe it. If people need more time then they aren't managing their village. If they over produce, they waste their time cleaning up, crying they need more storage.

People want to control the passage of time to fit their needs (sliders). They seem to want to play the game under their terms. It's hard work in the beginning, a struggle because even IRL we can say we have a lot to do but not enough time to do it.

Increase length of day = remove struggle.

I'm not a new player. i have over 250 hours played. my main play through is in year 18.
I want longer days so i can accomplish more during the daylight.
I'm on my 2nd play through now, year 10 and in my own personal opinion i STILL desire longer days or seasons. Just because someone else dis agrees does that give anyone the right to de legitimize my own personal wishes?
Does that mean there is something wrong with me, or my play style? compared to what? someone elses? I don't struggle with any aspect of this game, in fact i love it, hence why i have so much time invested. i have my own opinion just like anyone else.
I have several reasons for wanting longer days/seasons but what does it matter to list them if someone else is just waiting to delegitimize them because thier own opinion and playstyle disagrees? why can't i myself, or others like me, which obviously are several since i continue to see this topic come up, post our desires and wishes on the forums without someone else coming along and pooping all over the post with thier superior ideas and wishes? it seems as if the notion of a differing opinion offends some people. myself and anyone else should not have to defend our ideas and opinions on any matter related to a game in alpha stage to anyone else.
If i could turn off the night phases all together i'd be happy, because i personally don't like working in the dark. but i still do work through most nights via campfires and building hammer effects. and yes i do wish to play the game under my terms. as wells as ANYONE else who has ideas and suggestions they would like to see added.
