Crop Numbers
How much of each crop do people recommend? I am assuming crops like flax biggest quantity. Crops like poppy lowest. I guess part of question is how much you need of each. In my last setup I had 5 16x16 fields . 1 field was flax and the other 4 fields were split in half with 2 crops each. SO had 256 flax plots and 128 for each of other crops. It is a lot of work and not managed to fill fields yet also requires a lot of fertiliser

Wow, that is definitely overkill. Even 1 or 2 large fields can support a medium sized village. Currently I have 6 8x8 fields planting various crops each season which easily supports 31 people with lots of extra.
In the recent playthrough I had 5 big 10x16 fields, 2 of them for flax and 3 other for cereals - I plan to add there another 10x16 field for flax. Separately, near the other shed and between orchards I have 2 smaller 5x16 fields for mixed vegetables and 5x10 for poppies.
My current Oxbow game I have a 10x10 oat field. 4 10x10 Flax/Rye Fields. 8x10 beet fielkd. 6 x10 carrot field. 9x10 onion field. 10x10 cabbage field, 6x10 poppy field and 8x10 wheat field. 2 farmsheds with 4 wrokers each.

Fertilizer isn't a issue with a 2 pigstys producing manure.
i always heavily overproduced so i made some kind of test game.
after harvesting ~ 300 "squares" of each crop i got these numbers:

average harvest per seed planted:
Onions: 10,2
Cabbage: 7,8
Red Beets: 8
Carrots: 10
(Grain numbers are in seeds not stalks, except flax)
Wheat: 8,4
Oats: 11,76
Rye: 12,04
Flax: (stalks) 6,24

i harvested these myself without yield-increasing skills.

I did this becasue the numbers mentioned on the wiki are out of date. for example according to the wiki cabbage yield is 7-8 per seed, mine was 5 - 12.

If you plan to only feed your village and dont want to overproduce too much, i would recommend 1 16x16 for all grains (still A LOT) and veggie fields not bigger than 5x5. Cabbage maybe even smaller since its harvested twice a year.
With this i could easily feed a village of 70 people (including hunter II and fisher I)

I have 3 10x8 fields of flax (overkill at the moment, 2 would do) and a 10x8 for wheat, a 10x8 that does rye and oats and a 5x6 for cabbage (two crops a year).

I don't bother with any veg other than cabbage since pottage is fine as food. There are only two meals, Multigrain bread and Cheese, that have higher food value (apart from pies and tarts) so I see no point in other veg.

Cabbage has the advantage that the unused left overs make lots of fertiliser.

One 5x5 plot for cabbages produces enough to keep my 70 villagers (incl. children) fed with pottage.
The meat I provide myself.
3 wisent per season (3 days) is usually enough.

256 flax plots?
You harvest that 2-3 times and you will be set for the game.

Technically oat and rye can share the same field but I am to lazy to manually swap them.
So 5x6 each and that provides enough animal feed to support one full pen of everything except goats.

I have 4x4 fields of everything else but I only sell them.

One farmshed with 2 workers is all I need.

This covers my direct needs but for farming tech it is on the low end.
Thank you all. However, what about orchards size?
You and your villagers will harvest different amounts of fruits per species & per single Orchard/Tree.
These are my personal tested Ø harvest numbers per orchard before the 2.0 Update, so use them with caution, or better - verify the numbers on your own as I do not know if these are still correct:
  • Apple: 15
  • Cherrry: 30
  • Hop: 15
  • Pear: 20
  • Plum: 30

Then you'll have to take into consideration which consumables you want to produce at what production rate in the kitchen/tavern, to plant the correct amount of orchards providing the demanded fruits per year.
I have plenty of single tree orchards with fruit trees inside the village (planted for decoration, but they are harvested after all other farming tasks closer to the shed completed) additionally to 2x8 orchards for each type of fruit tree next to the vegetables' fields and a 5x8 hop field. I haven't counted how many of single tree orchards that I have currently have which tree planted, but all kinds except hop are there.
In my main Oxbow village, nearly 100 buildings, population of 139, I have 800 'cells' for flax, 60 for cabbage, 20 in beetroot & carrot & onion each, and 40 for poppy.

That said, I'm (greatly) overproducing all the food and the poppy, in large part because I'm using them for 'decoration' as well. Houses with a tiny vegetable garden of their own just look so good! I mean, they'd look even better if there was a larger variety of produce, especially if some of it grew to mid-height, but having a tiny field here and there in your village can really make things look better.

Also, I'm currently using tons of linen-related items in the various decor around the village, and I'm also aiming for the "having one million [currency]" achievement. I've always found flax to be easier and more enjoyable to earn money with than the metals. Harvesting flax is just... soothing, somehow :winter2019happyyul:. Once I hit 1m, I'll drop my flax field to something along the lines of 200, mostly to keep my villagers busy.

I'm not sure how many orchard trees I have. I mostly use those for decoration as well. Never really bothered with the juice, wine or pie production, aside from using such items as decoration.
I always ran my economy fully on roasted meat.

I did ran a few flax harvests to get tread for curtains and other decorations.. in my 50 houses
as despite having infinite money (well not infinite but 50000 coin per day, with 30 days a seasons... pretty much is as good as infinite)... the traders just sell not enough for what you need.
I noticed many of you you use small plots, is there an issue with a large field with multiple veg/grains in them?
5 x 10 fields, one of each. Then maybe add second of each of the grains but not for a while. Orchards 10 of each but buy them or loot them so they are all mixed together cept the hops are kind of an outer border.
Smaller fields are better for the villagers to work. Even now at 4 day seasons I only use two and one is beekeeper about half the time. Do have the worker speed perk. Early on I also do all the harvesting as I have the qty perk. At some point I no longer care. ymmv

Also use trees and fields as deco but don't count them just like the looks.

I can't speak for the others, obviously, but the reason why I use small plots is because I typically don't remove trees for aesthetic reasons (thus limiting space), and because smaller fields means more walls and decoration in between, which also looks good. Aesthetics again :P.

Only one worker can do a task (harvesting, fertilizing, plowing, seeding) on one field at the time. So if you have 2 40 tiles fields and they need to be sowed, two workers can do that at the same time, as while 1 80 tiles field, only one worker could seed it.
