Simple house vs house
I was wondering whats the advantage to build the house compared to a simple house, they both have room for 4 people, but the house cost more ressources to build so what does it give ? More happiness ? Take more time to break down even if both are in stone? I didn't find a clear wiki about it.

The House is larger. I Believe (but can be wrong) that it gives a morale/happiness bonus to those who live there that is greater than the simple house. It also has more areas that can be decorated, and each decoration adds happiness (to a limit) allowing you more ways to customize your village's houses to your liking, while making sure that your villagers are as happy as possible.

(The overall difference is small, and it winds up being more of a roleplaying/decorative choice than one with significant stat differences)

It's just for looks. Adding decorations indoors (like shelves, rugs, lanterns) will add to happiness, but that is capped at 10 decorations, which I'm sure you can cram into the simple house as well.

For me; I keep the bigger house for myself. Need something to stand out from the other peasants ;-)

So mean Morri lol. Give yourself the big house and everyone else a small house.

I build all big houses for my people. We are all working to make the settlement a success. No one is above anyone else in my settlement.

Hm, and here I am, not only in the biggest house, but building it on top of a hill as well while all the other houses are a bit lower so I can literally look down on the plebs working for me... :steamhappy:

Sounds a bit "socialist" to me :-)

I'm with Morri, big house on an island with fences to keep the unwashed out. Hey, they all have well insulated, well decorated houses, food, water, booze. They are happy and don't know any better.

Also size of course I generally take a bigger house and give everyone smaller but stone and best roof. They are able to fit more and in tighter spots but may not matter too much in some areas and how sprawled you want your village.

I do the opposite. I keep the smallest house for myself, since I can have only 1 kid at the same time, but on the other hand, the front yard outside of it is the biggest and the most decorated of all of them, and there is a backyard with a small garden, unlike other houses. Other villagers have the medium houses (except a couple who live outside of the village), but with just some basic decorations on their front yards and usually just from 0 to 2 fruit trees depending on how much space they have.

However, my kid once he moves out, will get the biggest house in another village that I've been building in another part of the map, so it will eventually become my house, after I reincarnate as him.

As a new player, can others confirm on whether the simple house can reach the max of 10 decorations?

Yes. Each wall can be decorated twice -- inside and out (16). The floor and ceiling each have four slots (8).

EDIT, NOTE: The door itself has no effect.

That's what I'm planning with stone walls, everyone gets a full size house of logs.
Except newcomers who I send to the first three houses I built, 2 simple smalls (my first house "hunting lodge" and a crappy daubed stick house "woman's house") and a simple that I've nicknamed "Bard's House." They stay there until I can get enough logs, daub, linen for curtains and leather for skins, to build pairs "proper" homes.

Thanks for that info, now I can stop wasting material on doors, except when I actually like a particular family.

Do shutters count as decoration, and are they opening and closing them themselves? I keep finding them closed (especially my own home when me and my wife had funky time) and now I build them and just leave them closed to see if they open by themselves.

Also, do shutters or curtains have an effect on firewood use?

Also also, is there a bug related to planters on walls? I keep encountering planters with no plants in them, even though I put plants in them every time I build them. Is it to do with saving and reloading? Do they expire after a few days, rather than seasonally?

All the best countries are socialist democracies.

Shutters and curtains each count as a decoration, so a Simple Small House has a total potential of 38 decorations if every wall is a window-wall.

Shutters and curtains have no affect on the insulation value of a home.

I've never paid attention to shutters, but off-hand I think they've always stayed where I put them.?.

I don't like planters. I don't use planters. So, I got nothing there.

Shutter positions are random at season change.
