The only criteria I have is to be visually appealing. I think I've found a good spot for me at the very bottom of the map, where there's the little winding river. I can imagine my village with this river running through it.
I intend to build a lot of bridges in the village to connect the two banks.
That is a stunning spot! I have been thinking of moving my village there after I have finished all the quests or in a new play through. I think that is one of the most beautiful views in the game.
Can you take a picture or something to show where you are on the map? I'm new to this game and have started the old game, The Valley, a few times, but could never find the right starting point there.
Thank you in advance and happy holidays!
Do you mean my village(s) in the Valley or the one in Oxbow?
I headed North for about 150m just after the fork in the road. There I found everything needed. Flattish area, trees, fishing spot, good hunting, reeds. There is a old building which I incorporated into the village.. There is a mine down to the SE. Between the river road and the east road I have the main village (40 odd buildings), East of the east road are the stock yards with animals. Naturally I have only a short way to go to sell produce in the main market.
I've been there for 20 years. My boy is 17 and has his eye on a young 18 year old. I have a feeling that when he is 18 he'll move in with her. Once he 'produces' he tells me he will move away to another spot and I can retire to the Tavern and work with my wife.
Way over to the west there is a cluster of rocks with a mine. Nice area north or it by the river is one spot he's looking at.
Further North of my village is a large island.. He might even turn that into a fortified town... or maybe his son will.
As others have said, anywhere & everywhere is "suitable" if you just build around whatever obstacles are in the way. Except for farming, proximity doesn't matter, so you can spread out far and wide.
I'm currently expanding into the spot @The REAL chris is talking about. I've built a "church" facing east overlooking the river valley below and plan to build concentric rings out from there.
All my farmland and my "starter village" is right outside SE of Piastovia with ample room for expansion. There's enough room that it could easily support an endgame village.
Eventually, I hope to move all my farmland down to the winding river S of Ostoya into what I imagine are flood plains.
I also had my eye on the "valley" farther S of Piastovia just north of the Mine. I like that you can get higher up on the ridge and look down into whatever's down there. I may still turn that into a bazaar with Market Stalls. Otherwise, I plan to litter the entire realm with Market Stalls. You get a stall; you get a stall; everyone gets a stall!
(Can't wait for the next one....
sounds cool. would like to see your town fortified one day.
Plenty of fishing spots close by plus good game.
