Filling water need for first new occupant
My new worker (woodsman) has a water need, but I lack a bucket or anything to fill and give him. Will he drop dead soon? Also... a river is like, right there...

Good news: he won't drop dead. The bad news, despite being near water, you have to supply all his water needs, otherwise he will leave.

There are a couple of approaches you can take.

I always build the woodcutter and workshop before bringing anyone in. I make a bunch of planks at the woodcutter and then create a few buckets at the workshop. The second approach is to craft a gazillion stone knives and trade them for coin and use that coin to buy a few buckets of water from one of the vendors.

Until you have a food storage building, you'll need to have buckets in all your occupied houses. Once you've got your food storage building, your NPCs will go there for food and water.
There are also, at lest in Oxbow, several buckets to be found around the map in ruined buildings (I only found one waterskin though)

This is why I tend to first build a basic setup (woodcutter, workshop, hunting cabin, well, storage, food storage + houses) and put some basic stuff in storages (some meat + water buckets, and some tools) before I go around to multiple villages to recruit a bunch of villagers all at once.

You can buy a wooden bucket at Piastovia. Filled with 10/10 water, one bucket should last very long.

If you did the short Oxbow tutorial quest in the sickhouse, you found a bucket in the chest that was prepared for you.

If it is summer then you can also collect berries and that will supply water for thirst as a temp solution until you can get water up and running.

If you can't find, buy or make a bucket ... it's a priority 'steal' for me - can't function without at least one bucket. Must admit, I have found loads in Oxbow from the beginning - usually in camps or ruins, so not had to steal one yet this play-through

I asked myself exactly the same question 24 hours ago. The knowledge menu does not provide an answer to this and I had to search the forum for a long time to find out. Get ready for what's to come...\0/
Can we become friends and help each other along the way? I speak Dutch, English and German.
