My excavation worker is going far north of my village for some reason, as my excavation shed is near the cave I don't have the mine yet. I just don't understand why she is going so far from my village. I have her set to do copper 100%.

It doesn't matter. It does not affect what they produce. The shed doesn't even need to be near any resource and they will produce the max amount.

The only work station that location matters is the farm shed, workers have to be on the feields to work.

The animation for excavation workers is picking things up from the ground. They won't go in caves. That's for the workers who are assigned to a mine building.

Excavation workers will head for the nearest claypit (that's where their animation is set) - doesn't matter what you have then excavating (clay, straw, stone, limestone or copper), that's where they will head. They will still collect whatever you want them to collect even though they may head off in totally the wring direction ... that's why I tend to build may excavation huts near claypits; it makes me feel better - gives them something to walk towards🤣
