The only constructs that actually need to be near each other are Fields, Farm Shed(s), & the Farmers' houses, since Farmers must physically be on the Field for any work to occur.
Since all other trades begin their work at exactly 0800 regardless of their sprite's location on the map and are immune to damage, they can work and live literally anywhere you want.
Build a house outside whatever city you prefer to start in each season and assign it to yourself so you'll wake up there with your inventory.
Build a Resource Storage near one or more mines for easy transport, if moving rocks and ore is troublesome.
Build a Resource Storage on the other side of the map in the middle of a bunch of Maple trees for when you need logs.
etcetera, etc.
