Do dropped items despawn?
I have too many stones and storing them in a warehouse is getting impractical. I don't need them now, but will eventually. Is it a good idea to just drop them in a specific area, or will they go away at some point if I do that?

They don't despawn, so you can drop them safely.
Exception are single arrows and bolts; those'll disappear over time to prevent the map being cluttered with lost arrows and bolts from your hunting adventures.

Only be careful with food items, cause those spoil instantly on season change when dropped on the floor (unless you turn on the customisation setting that you want to use them as decoration).

Thank you, Morri!

Dropping excess food items is awesome for making fertilizer. Early game I pick thousands of berries in summer to process into fertilizer in fall.

Right now I am dropping meat in the barn to rot as I have hundreds of excess hunting for leather and over abundance of food for my small village.
