Flax now produce less seeds??
My harvested 159 Flax now only produce 79 seeds. Has this been changed on purpose?

Yeah, I noticed that - 2 flax to make one seeds. Rather makes flax a lot less worth the effort especially given the cost of producing it, the lower prices and the wear rate of tool. Probably only worth it when you have a sewing shed and can make things from the flax stalks.

Shame really, flax was always my go to crop when getting started.

Most likely on purpose, there have been quite some changes to the economy, sadly no detailed list exists.
Quite some buildings produce less now but the production of villagers now scales not only with their skill but also with building level.
(so a level X hunter does produce more when he/she works in a level 2 hunting lodge then when working in a level 1 hunting lodge)

Same here. Hard enough to make enough coins with copper at the beginning. Also for my 23 plots of flax I had to use 4 1/2 stone sickles to harvest these. Hate to say it but I am loosing interest with all this (...) in the game.

Maybe I will put in a longer time break of playing it. It had been my most favourite game.
NMS has expeditions out right now, will do those.
Happy gaming everyone and happy holidays!!!

Look on the bright side. I have a fully maxed out flax field in season 3, but while the one farmer easily harvested the flax and is quickly working to get it prepared for the next season, the barn workers are much slower than before at breaking down the flax, same with the rye, oats, etc. I hate to do everything myself, but it looks like I'll be waiting a while before the flax is ready to be crafted into linen threads and such.
In the past, flax yielded too much seed and it was too easy to make a fortune with it. It was necessary to change it, but giving half the seed in return doesn't work.

It should give at least the same quantity so that we don't have to buy more seed every season, and there could also be event like losing part of the harvest or having some of our reserves destroyed by vermin. They need to put more thought into this.

Not saying its the best way to make money, but I did enough fields/sowing flax that I was able to up the skill tree to 100% chance of gathering additional crops in the first spring. So when I went to harvest it the first summer, I could get double the yield. 96 flax and 128 field tiles made, I think.

maybe theyll do a knee jerk buff/nerf reaction. Bring back "mother" instead of "parent" in the management field

Don't you mean double the seed? If you plant 50 flax seeds, won't it yield 100 in return?
Forget what I wrote. My previous harvest yielded below the amount of flax planted, as in the case of the OP.

I update the game to 2.0.0.2 and this new harvest gives me 634 flax for 68 plots and after processing gives me 317 seeds.

I don't know if it was a bug or something I did wrong, but everything's fine now.

I don't mind this change - it was way to overpriced to vendors in the valley. Time to hunt and make those little leather bags :-)

It was changed to "parent" because if the player is a female character then the husband becomes the homemaker -- same as the wife does for the male player characters -- to maintain game balance. Would be a bit odd referring to the husband in this case as "mother"

Yea you might need 2 flax to make 1 seed, but you still should harvest way more then 2 flax per tile, so you still get surplus seeds to sell, just not as many as before.
Honestly its a change I find to be quite ok, since flax-seeds were produced at about the same rate as grain, but without needing them for anything then to replant.
So they were a byproduct while grain is the main product. It makes sense that the amount of surplus seed you get from flax is more in line with the seed-surplus you get from cabbage, carrots etc.

So, to recap the info given by you all:
1. at the beginning of your skill tree you only harvest 1/2 of amount of seeds from your harvested flax (2 flax to produce 1 seed)
2. there will be enough flax seeds threshed from your stalks ( 3 times the amount of plots) to cover the plots planted and have extra for more plots and/or sell
3. adding more/maxing out the skill tree will definitely yield more seeds in the end (due to more harvested flax)

Thank you all again for your responses!!

Thank goodness I can now produce bronze tools :D
