Alcoholic beverages being so expensive and requiring such a high end tech to craft is puzzling

In the medieval ages a light alcoholic ale was commonly drank even among peasants. Buying a gallon of beer was very cheap back then. Why is it so expensive here?

People didn't drink a lot of it because they like the alcohol they drank it because it was a safer way to get hydrated as purifying/filtering water was always a challenge in those times.

Be glad something you can make still has some value. So much of the foods got nerfed pricewise. No use drinking on your character as it just gets drunk and is worthless (Wait! That is like real life.)

Still surprised I didn't die from dystentry drinking from the lake. Game should have that layer of challenge you relying on ale to stay hydrating while drinking from the lake is chance of getting dysentry

No thanks, this isn't a hardcore survival game. It is a city manager/sim game.
