But, raw meat used to give only +2 food value, while now it gives +16, so yes; they do gather less, but it'll last you longer.
Then you can just set your hunter to make dried meat. Or roast it up yourself for the exp gain.
You can basically free up a villager to work somewhere else by doing a bit of the hunting yourself.
Only right now I think that setting is bugged (i'm not 100% sure), so you'd have to wait til it's fixed.
Sounds like a bad plan to me.
With the recent changes I think it's even more important to try to get people who start with level 3 in the skill that corresponds to the job you want to give them. Skill affects productivity, and productivity affects skill gain, so a level 3 hunter will not only produce 50% more goods than a level 2 hunter, they will (as a direct result of that) also reach the next level 50% faster.
The change to the relative value of raw meat vs cooked meat is actually one of the changes I'm least happy about. In combination with the much lower nutrition gain from combining foods into stews, etc, it's now a lot less beneficial to feed your people cooked foods. It feels like cooking in general is now mainly for players, and you might as well let your workers eat raw meat and veg.
I mean, it's been like that since v1. For the amount of labour that goes into producing a cooked food, it's never been worth it versus eating raw vegetables. Even with all vegetables being equally at 4 nutrition, it's still WAY more efficient to just hire more farmers.
