Villagers, automation?
So no automation really? You need to micro-manage the villagers even after getting them settled in? Am I missing something here?

You can automate them. It's about balancing production values so that everything is in harmony. It's best to slightly over-produce, though, because as skill levels increase, or as people are replaced (read: new mothers), certain parts of the production chain will wax or wane. It's a challenge, for sure, though.

Not sure what you mean. You assign them to workplaces, and manage their tasks within each workplace via the Management menu. Once you have a Resource Storage and a Food Storage, they will put the items they make in storage and automatically take the items they need. Before then you will have to move stuff around yourself to make it accessible to them, so some people like to delay hiring until they have both storage buildings.

Early on, when you have very few workers and haven't unlocked all the basic workstations, you will need to do some tasks like cooking food and making tools. Once you have enough people and all the tech, you can automate everything.

If you have enough workers, your village can get fully automated.
As long as you have a food storage building and a resource storage building at least.
Since your people will take what they need from those two buildings and also put the things they produce in there.

That seems to cover it. So requirements will be food storage and resource storage. Have those on hand. Just wanted to be sure before further investment. Thus far it has been craft item, shove item into villagers personal house storage. So just got to get to that critical mass, put things in the right place per in game system. - I did not note an actual storage location in the food storage structure. I will have a look later on. Thanks again.

There is a chest inside, to the left of the door.

If you are ever unsure of where a specific items should be stored, check the item description: it will say "food storage" or "resource storage".

Something to keep in mind, resources and stuff get produced mostly just based on time, not what the villager is actually doing. With the exception of sowing fields (if you're actually close enough to see them). For example, if your mine is so far away your workers never actually MAKE it to the mine before the end of day they still produce all the same amount of iron and rocks they would have if the mine were right outside the settlement. I thought maybe you saw something like your smith forging metal instead of working the anvil and thought it wasn't making tools. Forgive me if that assumption was wrong.

The way the game always ends up for me is the town is fully self sufficient with little gaps in production popping up now and then that I fill manually. I feel it's a great balance to keep me doing stuff while still mostly just enjoying watching my ant farm go.
