FAQ
[23.01.2025] Frequently asked questions:

Can I play with friends on other platforms?
Yes, there is crossplay.

Which consoles will receive the Crossplay Update?
Xbox Series X/S and PS5.

Will GOG players receive an update?
Yes, GOG players will receive the Oxbow map with all the features accessible on all other platforms, including crossplay.

Do I need PS Plus/Game Pass to play in co-op mode?
Yes, Sony and Microsoft require subscription for the network connection.

Can we play locally or only online?
You can connect with your friends playing online. We do not support LAN connections and there is no split screen co-op.

Where I can find bards?
Three Bards will perform in taverns in both the Oxbow and the Valley.

Do I have to start a new game to receive new content?
No, the content coming with the update will be available in the current save. Some of the changes will be accessible after change of the season.

How big is the new map? What does it look like? Which biomes does it feature?
The size of the map is the same, but it has many more interesting things that we added after feedback. from close beta players.

Is there a new story arc? How does it relate to the valley story? Are we playing Racimir? Or a new person?
The story in the new map is independent from that in the single player version.

How do the maps connect with each other? Do I zone somewhere on the map, or are the map separate entities (Start new map from menu)?
The maps are two separate game zones. You can't travel between them in the game.

Will the update have a price tag (paid DLC)?
The cooperation mode will be introduced in the form of an update to the game, making it completely free.

I cannot play a customized character on the old map, can I?
At the moment, character customization is only available on the new map.

How many players in co-op?
Up to 4 players will be able to play in the cooperation mode.

Are there different complexions for the skin? Big beards? Will you add more customizations later on? Will beards grow after time?
We plan to introduce the possibility of minor character customization.

Will there be a pedigree for the villagers?
Just like in the single player version, it is available in the management menu.

Will there be new professions / New buildings?
There will be more options for customizing your settlement.

Will there be new game mechanics?
Yes, there will be some new mechanics in the game, but we will inform you about them in posts and news on an ongoing basis.
Compared to the original map/story/game, what is different aside from the announced things? The purpose of our beta testing with players was to incorporate their feedback, and as a result, the new map is significantly more expansive and designed.

Will you fix/address some long-standing items like font size scaling?
A new UI will appear in the update.

Will the game have a higher building cap now?
At this moment, the quantity limit remains unchanged.

How will death be handled in co-op? If one of your friends dies, can you revive them? When you die in COOP, your character will be resurrected.

Are there dedicated servers?
No.

Will everyone share the same village, or do we have multiple villages for every player?
At the moment, everyone shares one village, the host gives permissions to other players.

If the session host leaves the game, what will happen? Who creates saves?
The game is saved by the host, when the host leaves, the server turns off.

Is a player's profile saved to the game?
Yes.

Can you hurt or kill your fellow player (friendly fire)?
There is no option in the settings for friendly fire

If a female character gets an heir, will she have a stay-at-home husband?
Yes.

Will there be new achievements, especially for co-op? What about a player's perfect game achievement score?
We will not be adding new game achievements in the new update.

How will time pass in co-op, talking about sleeping?
Everyone has to go to bed and only then is your time skipped.

Matchmaking for co-op - friends only, invite only, free?
You will be able to play cooperative mode with your friends by inviting them to play.

How do customizations work in co-op? Can/does the host set them for everyone, or can everyone do that on their own?
The host decides everything.

Will EXP and quests be shared among players? How do you share quests?
Everyone shares quests by default, all players get the same amount of XP for each quest. For other activities related to gaining EXP, it will be allocated individually.

Are there more decorations?
Yes, we are preparing a new set of decorations for players.

If I start a game solo, can I invite friends later during the dynasty, and vice versa?
Yes, if they are playing on the Oxbow map. But if they are playing in the offline mode, they have to save the game first and use that save in the Online mode.

What happens if 1 out of 4 players is not online for a few seasons? Is the player then "physically" present and asleep?
They age now when offline too

Will there be problems if players are not online for a while and others continue to progress?
No.

Families between players possible?
It is possible to marry another player

If the rumor is true that the character creator is only available in co-op mode?
Yes, not a rumor, it will be only in the Oxbow.

Will female have different clothing options?
There will be female version of current clothing.

With multiple people playing together, gathering resources and building will be a lot faster. Will anything be done to mitigate this (like needing more resources than right now on the current map) and will this have an impact on solo players? The economy of game has been changed overall, affecting both maps (Valley and Oxbow). Some tactics are now less efficient, especially those focused on creating a massive quantity of basic products like stone knives or clay cups. Stone tools are also much less efficient than before (this applies to single player as well). To compensate for this, the village can now produce copper much faster (starting at the Excavation Hut stage).
In the future, difficulty scaling dependent on the number of players may be added (e.g., in the form of higher taxes), but for now, we want to encourage players to play together, so naturally, gameplay with four people is intended to be easier, faster, and more enjoyable. The only thing that required weakening in co-op mode are abilities that affect the entire village, such as lowering taxes and needed supplies. These abilities scale less effectively in co-op mode.
As for combat, a similar approach to the Valley map has been applied here - walking on roads is relatively safe, but in the wilderness, there is a high risk of encountering bandits and aggressive animals. This is more noticeable in Oxbow because the distances between settlements are much greater. Players taking shortcuts must consider significant risks. The change has affected the behaviour of animals in combat; now, they are much more mobile, making it harder to hit them when they are close. Nevertheless, hunting is worthwhile because the amount of meat, fur, and leather they leave behind is substantial. Hunting is now the best initial method for acquiring resources for trade - players take the risk of death for the opportunity to obtain a significant number of valuable resources. Players who prefer a more relaxed gameplay experience will always have the option to weaken animal and bandit statistics.

If everyone builds the entire village together, then who's gonna be the village leader? Someone needs to keep pace on the entire management structure, or there'll be up to 4 village leaders? Maybe the host will become one?
Everyone will be able to manage the village, but only 1 person at a time.

How does the entire village management structure work if there will be 4 completely different individuals?
This is one of the goals of co-op, for players to get along with each other.

What is the general situation regarding marriage/family formation in the co-op? So what options are there? Can each player play a man and marry his own wife? Everyone can marry their wife/husband of the opposite sex, and at launch this option will only be available with an NPC.

Can each player play a woman and then court a man?
Yes.

Can you play mixed genders and then (without much persuasive acting) marry each other and have children?
With NPCs and Player of the opposite sex.

One important thing I was wondering: Will two human players be able to get married together and have their own child?
This is possible.

How can I marry another player?
You need to open the emote wheel, and there will be an option to propose to another player.

How creating the dynasty together works exactly?
You will be able to have two children with your co-op partner - one for each player to switch to when you decide it’s time. You need to have a house big enough for 4 people.

I cannot use a shield. How to do it?
You need to switch to the shield first by holding F/X/square (same button as for the torch). Then you’ll be able to equip it.

How to earn a village sign?
To name your village you need to talk to Herald, do quests for your King, and pay 10,000. The same applies later for crests.

Do I need to start a new game to have content from the Autumn Update?
No. You’ll be able to enjoy the new content on your current game saves.

Do bandits attack villages now?
No. You can meet new types of bandits in new bandit camps.

Does the Valley receive new content as well?
Yes, the Valley receives all new content just like the Oxbow, except for the marriage between players as it requires the co-op mode.

Where I can meet Herald?
There is a random chance that the Herald will spawn in one of the taverns on the map (including player’s taverns) each season. This chance will be higher after every season the Herald didn’t show up.

-----------------------------------

GAMEPLAY

When do trees regrow?
If you leave the stumps in, then they will regrow in 2 years. If you remove the stumps, then they are gone forever. Also, the saplings, plants with leaves, you can collect for sticks while holding E, do not turn into a tree.

When do resources, like metal ores, and animals respawn?
When the season changes. Please note that animals spawns will not if you have built too close to the spawn point.

Where do I find Iron?
Iron can be mined once you have unlocked and built a mine, as this will open up the section in that cave where it is located. You can also buy it from certain Vendors. In the Oxbow, you can also mine iron from the start by going to the mine attached to Skauki.

Do my farm animals need to be fed to breed?
Farm animals only need to be fed to have a chance to breed at season change. If they are a product producing animal then they will only produce at 25% if unfed.

Can I rotate my fields and orchards?
No, they cannot be changed, they must follow the cardinal directions, NSEW. This is a limitation of the software and will not change.

Do I need to build workplaces close to my villagers house?
Except for farmers, no. They will still be working between 8am-6pm even if they are showing as walking halfway across the map. With farmers, as their animations are them working, the farm shed, and their house need to be close to where you have the fields for them to be the most efficient.

Why can’t I fill up all the beds in a house with my workers?
Only one 1 man and 1 woman can be placed in a house together.

How do I get my Villagers to marry?
If they are within 20 years of age, place 1 male and 1 female in a house together, then they will eventually marry and have children. They can have as many children as there are empty beds within that house. They will get married faster the closer in age that they are. Woman’s age affects the probability to have a child, the younger she is the higher probability that a child will be born up to age of 50 years, past that this will no longer be possible. The age difference cannot be greater than 10 years between the player character and their NPC spouse.

How long will my "Mother" villagers be looking after their baby for?
They will be on maternity leave for 2 years once the child is born. If you are playing as a female character in Oxbow, the father will have the pregnancy icon indicating you are pregnant and will stay home with the child for the 2 years.

How many children can I have?
As the player, you can only have 1 child, your heir.
How do I stop spawning at a town when the season changes in Oxbow? I slept in a house I had built. If you are a client, you need to assign yourself to an empty house by going to the board next to the door and holding E. Another way is to open management and assign to empty house with C.

Can my villagers die?
They can only die of old age. There is a chance each season change that this will happen from when they turn 60. This chance will increase as they get older.

How can I play the co-op save in Oxbow when the host is offline?
The host will need to transfer the save to you, so you can then load it and play as the host (if solo mode is picked) or as yourself (if co-op mode is picked). For Steam players you can find your saves in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Medieval_Dynasty\Saved\SaveGames

For Gamepass for PC
%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Packages\ToplitzProductionsGmbH.MedievalDynasty_xk3erba5yp89y\SystemAppData\wgs
Then click the top folder (with the long filename) two times to reach the save game folder

Will there be a voice chat and will it be distance related?

Will your spouse and heir ingame age when you are offline but your friends are playing without you? And will this potentially cause problems? (Your heir eventually ending up older than your own character for example.)

will they actually release the correct game version is a better question.

Can we marry each other as players? Me and my girlfriend are playing in coop but couldn't figure out a way to share the same house in the management, the village also shows only 1 population. Is this a bug?

Please let the HOST pause the game for all players by browsing the management menu or fetching beverages and other things. The original game was designed for a 3 days season, but with pausing when managing. Now its stress to play a 3 days season. And switching to a 30 days season is also not an option. So you will never see your heir ...

We can't play Co-op mode! :((( We see a black screen with a mouse. After 30 sec we see a flash of a different screen and then are back in the menu. We both have version 2.0. We tried multiple times, quit the game, uninstalled, changed to dx12 and dx 11 and still nothing work.. HEPL!!! :(((

This seems to be the only way to post a bug report about this game. The cold is unbalanced. I am standing on a fire, freezing. How? Why can I not "feel my fingers" in the spring?...smart people figure it out. thank you
I have a little trouble with game mechanics. Can´t make a fire (button E). Also i had to free up my character and then i couldn´t move anymore

For now you can only marry an NPC, but since so many of you are asking about it we will work on it :steamhappy:

Yeah, this is the same question i have. When the season change, the other player, except from the host, will transfer to the starting point, and won't be listed in the own village.
Sorry, if this is the wrong forum for this question.

Intresting too.
It's very strange that I can't assign a house to the player I'm playing with in the co-op. I hope it will be fixed
