it is nice to see that things get progressively harder. it that makes sense.
Highwaymen used to be a thing too, a single person could stop a stagecoach and rob everyone, then the people got smarter and started defending themselves, so more bandits showed up, eventually using trees/carts to block roads.
pretty sure people still use those last 2 even Today. (well, cars instead of carts but you get the meaning)
Would be fun if you had them sometimes roaming around through the woods as wel before returning to their camp. :-)
6 roadblocks
10 camps
7 Abandoned camps
17 broken carts
Naturally not ALL of them are there, but normally a few.
1: Get more camps/roadblocks etc
2: Their weapons get better quality
3: The cash they carry get more.
I've run into them waiting on the other side of the bridge going across the river toward Lesnica - that middle bridge that approaches the town from the side. Ironically, it was coming back from Lesnica across this bridge that I turned north at the crossroads and got ambushed. This area is dangerous for me.
There are actually 2 ambush points along that road, one at that crossroads, and one a little farther south towards Jezerica. The one you hit was the harder one, as it has a second crossbowman. The other only has one.
The worst one I have seen is on the road from Hornica going to the Jezerica cave.
JUST after the last fork in the road, as the road goes uphill, several melee bandits have the road blocked off. In addition, there is 2 crossbowmen up on a ledge to the right, above the barricades, in a spot where you'd have to jump up to get to them, and they have a clear line of sight on you the whole way.
I took it down by running away, then circling around, climbing the mountain, and shooting the crossbowmen while using the mountain peaks as cover. After that it was easy, as the melee couldn't reach me, so it was just target practice.
